Absolutely terrible news

Per Sean Reynolds on Twitter
Tragic news as we learn this morning Brad Scheifele (Marks dad) has passed away. Mark is not with the team and for at his hotel in Dallas. Scott Arniel is there with him as the rest of his coaching staff takes the Jets of through morning skate.

Ek’s note… I can’t imagine being in Mark shoes right now. I lost my dad about 15 years ago and I know the horrible feelings of a new reality that come along with that and then to be under so much pressure already as this kid is. I’m sure he’s not even thinking about the game, but at some point he’s gonna have to. Don’t know if he’s gonna play tonight or not. Either way is perfectly acceptable. But I do know tonight that if you don’t have a dog in this fight, let’s throw positive vibes Winnipeg’s way. And even if you do have a dog in the fight, let’s let Mark know in the comments how we’re all thinking of him at this time. There is hardly a classier
guy in hockey.

Feel so terrible I’ve been lucky enough to meet Mark and he truly is the epitome of a great Canadian hockey player on an off the ice. I mean the fact he didn’t complain about not being on the Canadian team in the Four tell you all you need to know. He should’ve been on that team, but he took it in stride .I bet he plays, because you know like his dad was a big impact on him and would want him to play. I just wonder how you can possibly go out there and do that.

Him playing or not playing is something that no one should judge this man in. There is no right answer. I know the Jets organization and Chevy are also just top people. I’m sure he is there four whatever he needs.

Thank you.
