The New York Islanders announced today that they’ve signed forward Kyle MacLean to a three-year contract extension.

MacLean is 25 years old, and joined the Islanders in the back half of the season, scoring four goals and nine points in 32 games.

Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed, but NHL.com's Stefen Rosner noted his expectation that the deal would be for around a $950,000 AAV. I had projected a three-year contract for MacLean to come in at a $1.35 million cap hit, at HockeyComparables.com.

The forward slotted in nicely in a depth role, and looks poised to take over as the team’s fourth-line center going forward. If the Islanders do hang onto Jean-Gabriel Pageau this offseason as well, continuing to use MacLean on the fourth-line would also allow the team to continue to play Casey Cizikas higher in the lineup on the wing.
