Flyers @ Calgary

John Tortorella's Philadelphia Flyers (1-0-0) are in Alberta on Saturday to lake on Ryan Huska's Calgary Flames (1-0-0). Game time at Scotiabank Saddledome is 10:00 p.m. EDT (8:00 p.m. MDT). The game will be televised on NBCSP.

Look for Ivan Fedotov to get the start in goal for the Flyers after Samuel Ersson took first-star honors in Friday's regular season opener. With Nick Seeler (knee) on injured reserve, the Flyers recalled defenseman Emil Andrae from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Friday.

The Flyers did some line juggling after the first period in Vancouver on Friday. Team captain Sean Couturier was moved down from the first to the third line. Morgan Frost was bumped up from the second line to the top line with Matvei Michkov and Travis Konecny. Jett Luchanko, after starting on the third line, went to the second line with Owen Tippett and Tyson Foerster. This was not set in stone, though, with some other rotations used periodically.

In fact, the 18-year-old Luchanko received a third period offensive zone start on a shift with 19-year-old Michkov and team leading scorer Konecny. Couturier skated a shift on the fourth line in place of Ryan Poehling, and a couple more on the top line. The captain was also used during the 3-on-3 overtime.

It is not impossible that the Flyers could have a morning skate in Calgary but it's unlikely. Very few teams (if any) nowadays skate on the morning of the second game of a B2B, especially with both games on the road and most especially after a time zone change.

The Flyers lineup will be posted when available, along with Calgary's.

Wrap: Flyers Beat Canucks via shootout, 3-2 (2-1)

On Friday evening, the Flyers earned a 3-2 (2-1) shootout win over the Vancouver Canucks in the regular season opener.

Tyson Foerster (PPG, 1st) and Cam York (1st) scored in regulation for the Flyers. Morgan Frost netted the winning shootout goal in the fifth round, while Travis Konecny also converted his shootout attempt. Matvei Michkov and Jett Luchanko each made their NHL debuts.

Samuel Ersson earned honors in stopping 24 of 26 shots before going 4-for-5 in denying shootout attempts. The penalty kill went 5-for-5 while the power play was 1-for-4. Nils Hoglander and Teddy Blueger scored for the Canucks in regulation. Goalie Kevin Lankinen took the hard-luck shootout loss.

Phantoms Host Hartford in Season Opener

Ian Laperriere's Lehigh Valley Phantoms will open their 2024-25 regular season schedule on Saturday (7:05 p.m. EDT) with a game against the Hartford Wolf Pack at the PPL Center in Allentown.

With second-year defenseman Emil Andrae joining the Flyers in Calgary for their game on Saturday against the Flames, the Phantoms will have move some personnel around on the power play and the blueline to adjust their initial opening night plan.

We will have a game recap, lineup report and more on Sunday afternoon here on HockeyBuzz.
