NHL Draft: June 28, 2024

1) The Flyers currently hold eight or nine picks (depending on whether the Columbus Blue Jacket send their second round pick to the Flyers or defer it to 2025. The Flyers have the 12th and 32nd picks of the first round. Round one will be held tonight at the Sphere in Los Vegas. Round two to seven start on Saturday morning.

2) As I noted in yesterday's blog, the Flyers are willing to work out one or more trades to move around in the first round but it was proving easier said than done so far.

3) The Flyers announced on Friday morning that they are buying out the final season of veteran winger Cam Atkinson's contract. The Flyers will take on $1.758 million of cap space (out of $5.875 milliion) in 2024-25 but also have absorb an identical amount of dead cap in 2025-26. Atkinson will immediately become an unrestricted free agent.

4) If the Flyers make any moves this weekend, I will add a blog item. If not, I will do an end-of-draft recap blog.

6) My annual first-round Mock Draft on Philadelphiaflyers.com was posted earlier today. In my mock, I had the Flyers picking Konsta Helenius with the 12th overall pick, and Russian forward Yegor Sulin at 32nd. To read the article, click here.
