1) The Lehigh Valley Phantoms avoided elimination in their Atlantic Division Semifinal series with a 2-0 victory over the Hershey Bears in Game 3 of the series on Wednesday night at the PPL Center. Hershey leads the best-of-five series, two games to one. Game 4 will be in Allentown on Saturday evening.

On Wednesday, the Phantoms were lifted by a pair of first period power play goals. Emil Andrae (second goal of the playoffs) gave the Phantoms a 1-0 lead at 5:44, assisted by Olle Lycksell and Cooper Marody. Less than two minutes later, Lycksell (first goal of the playoffs) doubled the lead, assisted by Marody and Bobby Brink.

On the Andrae goal, the Phantoms rookie defenseman wristed a point shot through layered traffic and past Hunter Shepard (20 saves on 22 shots).

On the Lycksell goal, a diving play by the goal scorer in front of the net caused the puck to trickle over the goal line. The finish came after crisp passes from Brink to Marody and then from Marody to Lycksell.

Phantoms goalie Cal Petersen made the lead hold up the rest of the game, recording a 22-save shutout. After making 11 saves in the first period, Petersen saw just five shots in the second period and six in the third. The Phantoms penalty kill stepped up big in killing off a Hunter McDonald high-sticking double minor as the second period and game approached the midway point.

The Phantoms season-long problem of struggling to stay out of the penalty box remained an issue on Wednesday. The most penalized team in the AHL during the regular season, the Phantoms had to kill five penalties in Game 3, all of which were of the high sticking variety. Fortunately, Lehigh Valley went 5-for-5 on the PK. The Phantoms were 2-for-3 on the power play.

Game 3 Phantoms Lineup:

28 Olle Lycksell - 9 Tanner Laczynski - 24 Adam Brooks
13 Brendan Furry - 22 Rhett Gardner - 23 Bobby Brink
17 Garrett Wilson - 56 Jacob Gaucher - 20 Cooper Marody
10 Evan Polei - 91 Elliot Desnoyers - 25 Matt Miller

37 Adam Ginning - 12 Ronnie Attard
6 Emil Andrae - 7 Louie Belpedio

2) On Wednesday, Flyers alum Chris Therien was in Harrisburg to speak at the Pennsylvania State Capitol. Therien joined with the Pennsylvania Association of Treatment Court Professionals to meet with legislators about problem-solving courts, promotion of recovery for those in need, reduction in the rate of incarceration for drug related offenses, and enhancement of public safety.

Therien, who serves as the chief wellness officer for the Pennsylvania Recovery Center, which treats substance abuse and mental health issues at three centers in the Delaware Valley, also spoke at the Capitol about his personal battles with alcohol abuse and his recovery story. Therien is also the founder of Bundy Recovery which allows all people to hear his message of hope and recovery."
