Why Has Dumba Not Signed? |

It is the dog days of Summer but there is still work to be done.
We know that Filip Gustavsson and Brandon Duhaime will get new deals either through the arbitration process or before if both sides come together prior to arbitration date.
However, there is a pretty glaring opening on the Wild blueline that really needs to be addressed.
By all assumptions, Brock Faber makes the top six especially after his strong performance in the playoffs. That still means that Matt Dumba must be replaced unless, Alex Goligoski is presumed to be in the top six.
That was not the case for most of last season, nor the playoffs so one cannot expect that to be the case.
Calen Addison did not exactly look the part of a regular everyday defenseman either. Addison for sure helps the powerplay, but at 5-on-5 he is more of a liability, and needs to be spotted by the coaching staff.
That brings us back to Matt Dumba...
Why has the 28 year old right shot defenseman not been signed?
Is it due to his offensive production falling over recent years?
Is it that he is asking for too much money or term?
Or...
Is it that he is waiting for the chips to fall into place with the Wild and he signs a one year deal for reasonable dollars in an effort to boost his asking price next Summer?
We know what kind of player Dumba is. He is a strong skater with a very hard heavy shot. Over the most recent seasons he has tempered the use of the big slapper and reduced the number of blocked shots dramatically.
Dumba is a leader in the locker room and a valuable member of the Minnesota hockey community.
The longer he remains unsigned....
