While the details haven't been released, it seems that Pierre-Luc Dubois' time as a Winnipeg Jet has officially come to an end and will be a member of the LA Kings by nightfall, with a pretty large sum of cash headed his way.
Chris Johnston is reporting that Dubois has signed an eight-year, $68 million ($8.5m AAV) contract with the Jets, but will be sent to the LA Kings with the deal. This is higher than a player like Dubois has truly earned to this point, and while he is a great player and can certainly live up to that price, it is better on the LA books than Winnipeg's.
The reported return has been surrounding three players; Alex Iafallo, Rasmus Kupari and Gabriel Valardi.
If the Jets get those three players back, this is a huge success, not only for the Jets on-ice roster, but Kevin Cheveldayoff.
Cheveldayoff has been losing the faith of Jets fans, and the idea of re-tooling instead of rebuilding didn't sit well with many, but if this is the kind of work he can pull off, I am quite impressed.
With his back against the wall, Dubois wanting out of Winnipeg and everybody under the sun talking about how little leverage he has, Cheveldayoff is the biggest winner of this deal. He needed to prove what he can do, and that is exactly what he did with this.
There will be an updated blog once the official assets come out, analyzing the players and their impact on the Jets roster.
