The Winnipeg Jets concluded the NHL Trade Deadline adding just two players for as many picks. There is some frustration among the fanbase, as there were high hopes for Kevin Cheveldayoff to make some bigger moves to reward this team that has been playing so good.

I don't think the Jets needed a blockbuster, but adding a few more bottom-six pieces would have been smart.

We already talked about the acquisition of Nino Neiderreiter, but to recap, the versatile top-nine winger has another year left on his deal and only cost the Jets a second round pick. Neiderreiter. on top of being a 40-50 point guy, has lots of intangibles to go along with his production. He has physicality, he drives the net, and strong defensive metrics. With the injuries the Jets have dealt with this season, specifically the one to Cole Perfetti, the Jets needed to make this move, and they faired out quite well with it.

Vladislav Namestnikov was acquired for a fourth round pick, and provides great bottom-six qualities. This is a great move for the Jets in a vacuum, but in the bigger picture, they waived Mikey Eyssimont, who was claimed by the Sharks and traded to Tampa Bay for Namestnikov. Asset management is incredibly important in the NHL, and while the timing is certainly a factor, Cheveldayoff essentially traded Eyssimont and a fourth for Namestnikov (which still isn't horrible value).

I am a big fan of "Nemo" and what he brings to the table. This is his fourth time being traded for a fourth round pick, so his value has been publicly on display with that, but let's talk about what he brings to the Jets.

He will likely slide in on the fourth line, but when given an opportunity to succeed, Namestnikov is good for 20-30 points, but his defensive game is where he gets the most praise. He is a playoff guy. When you are needing someone to go make sure nothing is happening on the ice for 45 seconds, Namestnikov is your guy. He can jump into the play when need be, but it is clear that defense is his biggest priority.

What are your thoughts on the pair of acquisitions by the Jets?

Personally, I really like both. It may not be enough to meet some people's standards, and I think they should have added one more third-line scorer, but these two moves alone were great additions.
