In an ironic twist Detroit once again needs one more than the three goalie system they implemented. This time, Sebastian Cossa gets the golden ticket (don’t lick the wallpaper, Grandpa Joe got nasty with that stuff).

Detroit’s goaltending prospects are, for some, the most exciting part of the pipeline. Augustine in Lansing, Cossa in Grand Rapids and Gylander in Toledo are all causing a stir. After speaking with Dan Watson last week there is a near voracious appetite for a tandem of Augustine and Cossa at some point in the near future.

On that same theme, I had a text from my friend Chris who was at the MSU game last night. Detroit had a robust scouting staff at the game, as did Philadelphia. Savage either left with or didn’t dress due to injury, so there were two prevailing theories. Augustine is getting looks, and Philly could be a team that’s looking. The other is coach Nightingale.

When Jeff Blashill went to Western I was writing for the Detroit Examiner’s college hockey section. The turn around in Kalamazoo had a lot of teams looking at him. The coach at MSU has at least as much heat as Blashill did when the Wings interviewed him. Ironically, I talked to him before and after the interview. Was a strange time. To be clear, Augustine should be off limits (opinion). Cossa is coming along beautifully but you’re always one injury away. Unless Augustine makes it clear he wants to go somewhere else, look at Lyon as a possible rental while his salary is so low and see what you can get.

Either way, it’s interesting that two scouting staffs came in numbers. Let me know who you think is getting the heat and what you’d look to do. Thanks to all of you who come by. This blog is an immense honor, and I truly appreciate the opportunity.
