I actually yelled at the television. Now I have to buy it flowers or it won’t talk to me for a while. Toronto has more scoring talent, and was defensively as good as I can remember in the current era. Detroit looked like they forgot how to pass and shoot. Only Larkin broke through and it’s just not enough to have the power play bail you out.

The good news is that the Wings actually outshot Toronto, the bad news is that Detroit just looked like they don’t know what they’re doing for far too much of the game. Raymond is “snake bit”, Compher and Copp whiffed on some beautiful chances and nights like this are an embarrassment for a team that still doesn’t have its ish together.

The best part of the game for Detroit? Pav’s intro for the hall of fame. Berggren and Veleno aren’t doing much and if Sprong is available there’s more than a couple of options I’d look at. His trade was a bit of a head scratcher that came seemingly out of the blue

In an odd tidbit Daniel Sprong, for whom many lamented the loss, hit free agency with an alleged ask of 3yrs x 3m. After time went by, the right shot winger settled for a sub 1m contract in Vancouver. Now, Sprong is back with Seattle on a trade that saw, well, nothing go back to Vancouver. Is there something missing here? Sprong felt like a natural replacement for some of Perron’s game, but teams wouldn’t take him. Now the team that did has gotten rid of him.

Let me know your thoughts on the game and on Sprong.

1st Period goals:

Toronto scored just 2:01 in on a rebound after a drive to the net. Detroit challenged for goaltender interference and won still 0-0.
Originally didn’t look like it but alternate views showed contact, full credit to LaLonde and staff for making the challenge.

Leafs got the goal back on the power play at 11:12. 1-0 TOR

Shots: 10-8 TOR
Score: 1-0 TOR

2nd Period goals:

At 9:10 in the 2nd Larkin got his league leading 6th power play goal after a pass from Raymond found the captain near the left faceoff hash marks. Ripped another high shot in and tied it up 1-1. His Nana was there and someone was trying to keep her from standing up and cheering. Good luck.

Leafs restore the lead at 11:01 on the power play. 2-1 TOR

Shots: 16-14 TOR
Score: 2-1 TOR

3rd Period goals:

Wings pull the goalie and Tavares scores with 90 seconds left.

Shots: 22-20 DET
Score: 3-1 TOR
