Axel Sandin-Pellikka currently sits tied for the team lead in points (13 points in 13 games), tied for lead in goals (5) and the clip above shows a coast to coast beauty. He also assisted on Michael Brandsegg-Nygard’s first SHL goal. There is some positive energy coming from the Dman and the hope is there that he will see some time in North America at the end of his team’s season. Brandsegg-Nygard is probably benefiting from the time overseas in his rookie campaign. ASP, however, looks like he should be getting ready for the smaller sheets and tougher play of North America.

It’s been reiterated (rightly) that Detroit’s 4-3-0 record is nearly unbelievable as you watch the shots against and shots for needing goaltending to step in and keep the team in it. Fans can only hope that the office is doing what several offices are reported to be doing. That is, looking for upgrades. Nashville, Calgary, Toronto, Edmonton and Detroit are all rumored to be looking at something. For Detroit, it’s yet to be seen if any rumors of a coaching change have any teeth. Provorov is on multiple radars but CBJ has injuries. It’s easy to say “get everything you can and be a lottery team” but tickets still have to be sold. Add to that how early it is in the season and it feels like people are waiting for a deal to be made.

There’s been a “softening” from some press and it is hard to read. Yes, Detroit showed some snarl last night but were so badly outshot (again) and the PK was awful. Kane seems to be coming to life, and Debrincat’s interception/goal was a beautiful sight. None of the positive should have the team holding off on potential upgrades.

There are good things happening, but a collision course with disaster is inevitable if something doesn’t change for the better. It feels safe to say that Kasper should have solidified his presence at this point. The Lyon/Talbot tandem should be the go to for the foreseeable future. The shots for and against have to change. The PK has to be better. It feels like something needs to move for that to happen.

Let me know your thoughts. Enjoy the win, absolutely. What would be the quickest route to improved possession, attack and defense? It feels like a fundamental change is needed in philosophy, but I’d like to hear where you are at with this one.
