ROUND 1, GAME 3

After shutting out the Lightning in Game 2 to take a 2-0 series lead, the Panthers have pushed Tampa’s back closer and closer to the wall.

I predict the powder keg that is the Battle of Florida will erupt this afternoon during the Game 3 action.

The spark?

Brandon Hagel’s hit on Barkov Thursday night (duh) — a hit that saw #16 exit the game.

No surprise here, this play had fans split on social media debating whether or not it was a dirty hit.

It initially looked to me like Hagel was just trying to time his hit. When I rewatched it, it feels like a hit to take a big piece (injure).

Apparently the league felt the same way, having just announced that Hagel will be suspended for Game 3. In fairness, the Department of Player Safety has been rightfully criticized for inconsistent discipline.

Did they get this one right: Yes or No

Barky’s status for Game 3 murky, as head coach Paul Maurice said, “He hasn’t been ruled out yet (for Game 3) and he hasn't been cleared".

My guess is Barkov is going to miss some time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was concussed after that hot, because he certainly looked dazed and out of it afterwards.

Hope I’m wrong…

Tough break for the Panthers if he is out. Skill aside, Barky is the rock for Florida and has three apples and a solid FO% at 66.71% thus far in the series.

You know who else has been solid? Nate Schmidt. His three goals through two games is more than Tampa’s total in two games.

Schmidt might end up being one of those unlikely postseason heroes.

Look for a big push from TBL this afternoon. They are on the road and down two games. I can see them emptying the tank and the Panthers having their hands full.

Keep your fingers crossed for some good Barkov news. We should see something in the next few hours.

The other big news heading into this afternoon is that Aaron Ekblad will be back in the lineup after serving his suspension for PED usage.

If you’re keeping score:

Hagel = out
Ekblad = in
Barky = unknown
