The Columbus Blue Jackets lose their point streak in a 3-1 New York Islanders’ defeat at UBS Arena.
Period I
Kent Johnson opened the game scoring on the power play from the Andres Les trip for his 13th goal of the season. KJ’s 35th career goal was assisted by Russian dynamos Kirlll Marchenko and Dmitry Voronkov.
This is the first 50 point season for Marchenko, my player to watch tonight, to witness this in-season milestone.
Period II
The Islanders scored three goals in five minutes and four seconds to secure the victory on home ice.
Bo Horvat tied the game at one all for the veteran’s 15th goal of the season from Matt Barzal and Adam Pelech.
Two minutes and 14 seconds later, Simon Holmstrom got the game winner short-handed for the winger’s 10th goal of the season from Jean-Gabriel Pageau.
Less than three minutes after that, Horvat had his second of the game and 16th this season on the powerplay from the Adam Fantilli interference. The helpers on the final goal went to Barzal and Noah Dobson.
