The Columbus Blue Jackets have been swept by the Minnesota Wild in their 2024-2025 regular season series. The Wild bested the Blue Jackets on home ice by the final score of 3-1. For the series, the scoring was 6-2. Evason fails to win against his former club in his first two attempts as their head coach.

Period I

Marco Rossi opened the scoring for the road team past the halfway mark of the opening frame for his second goal of the season. The former first rounder had his goal assisted by forward Yakov Trenin. This was Trenin’s first point as a member of the Wild. Marcus Foligno, the brother of former captain Nick, had the secondary assist.

Period II

With four minutes on the powerplay from a Trenin high stick, no team was able to score.

Period III

The Minnesota Wild capitalize six seconds into a five on three powerplay as defender Jordan Harris and forward Cole Sillinger were both in the sin bin. Kirill Kaprizov recorded the power play goal, which eventually would stand as the game winner, for his second of the campaign. Brock Faber had the primary assist. Plus one on my fantasy hockey club. Matthew Boldy, my Minnesota player to watch, had the secondary assist.

Mats Zuccarello registered the final goal on their scoring streak. Three unanswered goals by the Wild. Zuccarello earned his third of the season from Kaprizov and Jon Merrill.

Yegor Chinakov potted in the lone Blue Jackets’ goal with 95 seconds left in the game. His third goal of the season has him at a five game point streak (3G, 4A). Sean Monahan and David Jiricek, my Blue Jackets player to watch, had the assists.

Goalies

Minnesota — Filip Gustavsson recorded 23 saves on 24 shots for the Wild for a 0.958 save percentage.

Columbus — Daniil Tarasov allowed three goals on 35 shots faced for a 0.914 save percentage.

Players to Watch

Minnesota — Matthew Boldy — his first point in three games. 4 of his 6 points in this young season were against the Blue Jackets.

Columbus — David Jiricek — FINALLY! Jiricek plays! He was a +1 with an assists in 11:23. Keep him in the lineup.

CBJ THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Yegor Chinakov — goal (3); 7 points in 5 game point streak
2. Daniil Tarasov — L, 32 saves, 91.4 SV%
3. David Jiricek — assist (1), +1, 11:23TOI in season debut

Next Telecast

Tuesday night, October 22nd, the final game of the four game home stand is against the Toronto Maple Leads for their first meeting of three.
