The Columbus Blue Jackets fall to the Nashville Predators in a comeback overtime loss. The final score was 4-3 in the former Central Division rival matchup.

Period I

No goal scoring, but 8 Columbus shots on goal and offsetting minors between Zach Werenski and Filip Forsberg.

Period II

Kirill Marchenko opened the scoring for his fourth goal of the regular season. Marchenko has goals in back to back games. Adam Fantilli and Jack Johnson earned their first assists of the year. This was Jack Johnson’s first point as a Blue Jackets’ skater in over 6 years. His last point was April 5th, 2018.

Zach Aston-Reese recorded his second career Blue Jackets’ goal from the former Predators’ enforcer, Mathieu Olivier. ZAR has three points in his last four games. Olivier has five points in his last four games.

Filip Forsberg scored on the four on four for his fourth of the campaign from linemate Ryan O’Reilly. Forsberg is on a six game point streak, including 3 goals and 3 assists.

Period III

Cole Smith has tied the game at two a piece with his first of the season. Smith has earned points in back to back games. Michael McCarron earned his first assist of the season. Brady Skjei had the secondary assist.

Zach Werenski regained the lead for the road team for his third of the year. This was the American defender’s first goal since October 12, the last time Columbus was on the road. His third consecutive road game goal was supported by fourth liners Kevin Labanc and Sean Kuraly. The assist is Labanc’s fourth point as an addition for the Blue Jackets after spending the preseason in Jersey. The Brooklyn winger is on a four game point streak. This was Kuraly’s first point of the season and 35th assist with the Jackets.

Alexandre Carrier tied the game at three with his first of the season. Zachary L’Heureux recorded his first career point with the lone assist. The Quebecois was in his third career NHL game.

Overtime

The former Blue Jackets’ forward Jonathan Marchessault got the overtime game winning goal for the home team halfway through the extra time. His second goal as a Pred was assisted by Skeji in his first multi-point game with the Predators.

Players to Watch

Nashville — Steven Stamkos, the former Tampa captain, was a -1 with a shot in goal in 17:46TOI. Still doesn’t feel right that he is not in Tampa Bay.

Columbus — Damon Severson was a startling -3 in 20:45TOI.

Goaltenders

Nashville — Scott Wedgewood had 25 saves on 28 shots faced in his first win in a Predators’ uniform.

Columbus — Daniil Tarasov had 29 saves on 33 shots against for a 0.879 save percentage.

CBJ Three Stars of the Game

1. Kirill Marchenko — goal (4)
2. Zach Werenski — goal (3)
3. Zach Aston-Reese — goal (2)

Next Telecast: Monday night against the defending Western Conference champions, the Edmonton Oilers. Edmonton is on the second half of a back to back with travel after visiting Detroit on Sunday.
