|
The Columbus Blue Jackets dismantled the New York Islanders by the final score of 6-1 to close the 2024-2025 regular season on a six game winning streak.
Period I
Denton Mateychuk had the only minor penalty of the game, a tripping infraction against my Islanders’ player to watch, Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Islanders outshoot Jackets 10-6.
Period II
Columbus ran through New York in the second period with five unanswered goals.
1. Cole Sillinger opened the scoring with his 11th goal of the regular season unassisted.
2. Dante Fabbro got the eventual game winner for his ninth goal of the campaign from Jordan Harris.
3. Dmitri Voronkov extended the lead for his 23rd of the year from Zach Werenski and Sillinger
4. Sean Kuraly continued the push for the home team for his sixth of the year thanks to Justin Danforth and Erik Gudbranson.
5. Zach Werenski closed the second period scoring for his career high 23rd goal of the campaign courtesy of Sean Monahan and Kirill Marchenko.
Period III
Hudson Fasching broke the shutout for his second of the season from Casey Cizkas.
Adam Fantilli answered back to regain the five goal lead for his career high 31st of the year from James van Riemsdyk for the final goal of the regular season.
Goaltenders
Marcus Hogberg saved 20 of 26 shots for a 0.769 save percentage.
Jet Greaves only allowed one goal on 37 attempts on net for a 0.973 save percentage.
Players to Watch
New York — Jean-Gabriel Pageau drew the lone penalty from Mateychuk. He was a -2 in 13:35TOI with a shot on goal.
Columbus — Jack Williams was a +1 in 11:09TOI, least among the forwards, but got the donkey of the game anyway. Great vibes.
CBJ Three Stars of the Game
1. Jet Greaves
2. Zach Werenski
3. Sean Monahan
Editors’ Postseason Note
What an unbelievably beautiful 2024-2025 NHL regular season. For Johnny Gaudreau. For the fans. For the hockey world and Hockeybuzz. This has been the most emotionally charged season I have ever witnessed and have been proud of every moment this Blue Jackets team has produced. I am ready to see the new season as the future continues to shine brighter than ever in Columbus.
As the Blue Jackets currently hold picks number 13 and 20, this season may be a busy one. Over the Easter weekend, I will be predicting the playoffs and keeping a close eye on Cleveland as they look to make the final push with Mateychuk and Greaves returning.
The usual rumors and contract extension discussion will return too. Happy days are ahead for us all; more is to come…
