Sunday Recap — Back to Back Regulation Losses to Seattle & Ottawa

Happy Sunday hockey world! Todays blog is going to be a short one just involving game recaps as I am getting over more illness. Gotta love the Change of seasons.

Tomorrow, we will cover more from the deadline and what is ahead for the Jackets’ management and roster.

Here is the recap of the back to back:


CBJ P61 -- KrakALackin'

The Seattle Kraken sweep the Columbus Blue Jackets in their 2022-2023 season series with a 4-2 regulation win in front of the sold out Nationwide Arena.

Columbus opened the scoring just shy of the halfway mark of the second period off the powerplay. Patrik Laine potted a snapshot to be one behind the leader for his 18th of the season. Adam Boqvist and Johnny Gaudreau had the helpers.

Jared McCann evened the game with the Kraken's first ever 30 goal season. Oliver Bjorkstrand and Vince Dunn had the assists.

Jordan Eberle had the go ahead goal with his 50th point of the season. His 14th of the year had McCann and Alex Wennberg had the helpers.

Adam Boqvist evened the game for the third time for his third goal of the season. Laine and Erik Gudbranson had the apples.

Alex Wennberg got the eventual game winning goal for his 11th goal of the season. Eeli Tolvanen and Vince Dunn had the assists on the winner.

Brandon Tanev had the put away empty net goal for his 12th of the season. Jaden Schwartz had the the lone assist.

Matthew Beniers had one shot on goal with a 16% Faceoff percentage in 16:06TOI.

Phillip Grubauer had 21 saves on 23 shots for a 0.914 save percentage

Cole Sillinger had two shots and two hits with a 58.3% in the faceoff dot at 15:48TOI.

Elvis Merzlikins stopped 31 of 34 shots for a 0.912 save percentage.

CBJ THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Adam Boqvist -- goal (3), assist (15), 20:00TOI

CBJ P62 -- Chychrun Center of Attention in Canadian Capitol

Jakob Chychrun continues his strong season with leading his new team in his hometown debut in a regulation win for the Ottawa Senators. The final score over the Columbus Blue Jackets is 5-2.

The scoring began just five minutes into the first period with a Travis Hamonic slap shot for his fourth goal of the season. Mathieu Joseph and Jake Sanderson had the helpers.

Jack Roslovic evened the game with just 18 seconds later for his seventh of the year.

Tim Stuzle got the go ahead goal late in the first for his 30th of the campaign. Brady Tkachuk got the primary assist. Jakob Chychrun had the secondary assist that would be his first point as a member of his new team.

Hamonic got his second of the game for his fifth of the year. Alex DeBricant and Sanderson had the assists.

Chychrun scored his first goal with the Sens that would be his eighth of the season. Erik Branstrom and Julien Gauthier got the assists. For Gauthier, it was his first assist with his third team of his career.

Patrik Laine recorded a power play goal that would be his 19th this season. This ties him with Boone Jenner for the Columbus goal lead. Kirill Marchenko had the lone assist, his second of his young pro career.

Stutzle extended the Senators' lead with his second of the night on a short handed goal for his 31st. Mathieu Joseph had the lone helper.

Chychrun was my Senators' player to watch, putting up a goal and assist in his home debut. He has had a monstrous season and to be so productive and so few games is impressive.

Cam Talbot allowed two goals on 21 shots for a 0.905 save percentage.

Erik Gubdranson had three shots; two hits; and one block, giveaway and takeaway in 21:14TOI.

Elvis Merzlikins started the game, allowing 19 goals on 23 shots before being exchanged for Michael Hutchinson, who stopped 15 of 16 shots.
