Summary:

When the first goal against was a short handed tally by the most physically aggressive (and least beloved) L’hereux it felt like that was a bad sign. The Grand Rapids power play has been awful. 4 goals in 2 rounds with one being an empty net. Edvinsson was out again, but so was Askarov who had been so critical in net.

Milwaukee made it to the finals last year and have a mix of veterans and youth with the Nashville mentality. Grand Rapids had come out well, but the players were not ready for Milwaukee’s play in the post season. The late game comebacks get tougher and tougher. To the positive, this is good experience for the group. 9 post season games and an idea of that atmosphere.

Hard decisions will be made by players and staff. We’ll find out soon enough if Berggren and Yzerman can agree on a way forward or if the rumored road to separation is truly unavoidable.

It’s very difficult to put this into words. The team looked to play hard but were stymied. they killed off 5 on 3s, but scoring completely eluded the group. We’ll hear soon about what injuries were in play. To reiterate the point, this was still good for the team. Especially the younger players. Sylvester Stallone may have said it best, “Winning doesn’t teach you anything. It ain’t about how many times you get knocked down, it’s how many times you get back up.” While that is sentimental at best, there is an important lesson there.

A sad finale to Detroit related hockey for the summer. Lucas Raymond has a silver medal for the mantle after his IIHF experience. Augustine has continued to move forward. Cossa is getting important reps. Danielson will at least likely start in the AHL while Sandin-Pellikka continues his overseas development. A full summer of training and negotiation lies ahead. The 24/25 iteration of the Wings will be finalized and the grind begins again.
