4 straight wins. More than that, 4 pretty exciting wins. Berggren with a 1 on 0 with less than a minute to play. Structures, lines and pairings that are helping players find their game. In truth, a very difficult situation that led to a much needed change. The team looks to be having some fun.
While still hesitant to go number by number on the comparisons, the PK sits at 31st and will face the #4 power play in Ottawa. The Senators newer ownership is adamant in regards to building a brand and a culture that washes away some of the stress of the previous years.
At some point, the bump for Detroit will even out. The overall change and demeanor of the team is night and day. Coach McLellan has a lot of energy and has very little trouble (if any) expressing himself to players, staff and media. Raymond seems to have grown and risen up to be a player who is encouraging his teammates to grow. Seider also seems to have a maturity that allows him to openly talk about the good, the bad and the ugly.
This has been a much needed turn in (in the short term) for fans and players alike. At this point it’s just a matter of watching to see what is sticking and will help to develop the team’s overall growth.
Several of you have stopped by the “Strings’nPucks” channel, and right now we are getting ready to do part 2 of the major changes to the NCAA. The first 2 parts are what we have seen in the football season and part 3 will address what we expect to see in hockey as the CHL transfer, Name Image Likeness money and “infinite portal” all collide at the same time.
This past week something happened that I never thought I’d see openly reported. For those who don’t know, even with the playoffs happening the transfer portal is still open and this happened:
NEW: Tampering is at an all-time high with Texas QB Quinn Ewers, @PeteNakos_ reports.
A player was offered 6 million dollars to leave his school before some of their biggest post season games and forego the NFL draft. For hockey, that’s a bad sign. We have draft picks that are in college, can’t sign their ELC until they leave, and are ripe for the same type of offer. “Finish your eligibility, get paid, then become a UFA” or “transfer and get paid”. If you move, say, a star goalie that could do some damage.
If you can, watch some of the video (embed at the top). Players will be making decisions soon as to whether or not to stay in school or sign their ELC. A new video is going to break down the trifecta that hockey is facing that makes it a whole new ball, er, puck game.
