Game Summary:

The games against St. Louis are essentially a reunion any more. I have to imagine that, if there’s time, there are a dozen or so players catching up at dinner. Vrana having success in his new home, though last night it didn’t burn Detroit in terms of pucks in the net.

Chiasson seems ridiculously comfortable on the power play. Perron seems to know exactly how to feed him the puck cross crease for a tap in as a couple of the 4 he’s score look eerily similar. Seider looking more and more comfortable at the top of the formation when Detroit shifts to a Triangle formation with a player at the side of the net.

With a rematch set for tomorrow, it will be interesting to see how the teams adjust to one another. We’re in the home stretch and once the “final” numbers come in, we’ll take a look to see where there have been improvements, areas where the team really needs to build up, and an overall impression of this past season. There were some good runs and it’s nice to try and finish strong. It’s also abundantly clear that Yzerman and co are looking at the on ice product and making lists. Having the past 3 captains working together is an interesting dynamic that I’m not sure I’ve seen in this same way before. Each with at least one cup ring, there is certainly some hockey knowledge making its way through the offices.

First Period Detroit Goals:

St. Louis opened the scoring at 2:21. 1-0 STL

Chiasson’s love on the power play continues to grow, as another cross crease pass from Perron found his stick blade on the ice for an easy tap in at 7:49. Larkin with the assist, and good quick movement all around. Seider very comfortable at QB position. Secondary assist goes to Larkin

1-1

St. Louis regains 1 goal lead at 10:03

If anyone needs a couple goals down the stretch, Zadina is possibly the prime candidate. His work ethic has been strong, but the scoring drought has been a painful one. A blocked shot found its way to Z and he had an open net for just his 3rd tally of the year as the St. Louis netminder was on the other side, trying to anticipate the initial shot. Lindstrom and Kubalik with the assists at 17:47

Shots: 7-7
Score: 2-2

Second Period Detroit Goals:

No second period goals
Shots: 15-11 Detroit
Score 2-2

Third Period Detroit Goals:

No Third Period goals.

Shots: 29-19 Detroit
Score: 2-2

Overtime:

No Overtime goals
Shots: 30-22
Score: 2-2

Shootout:

Raymond gets the shootout winning tally as he skated wide right with an easy stride, came in looking like he may go for a far side backhand but instead went short side with a wrist shot.

Score: 3-2 Detroit
