Is Ottawa's Offense in Trouble? |
|
|
|
The Ottawa Senators are continuing to see struggles in the goal scoring department throughout this roster construction. On offense, they have four 10 goals, including Tkachuk; Gaudette; Norris; and Stutzle. Batherson and Giroux are knocking on the door. Gaudette is the surprise. After those six, nobody else is near five goals on the season. What is wrong here for this to happen?
The Depth
The bottom six was switched out over the summer for veteran presence. The new players are also struggling to adjust to new coach Travis Green's system. Cousins has 3 goals in his first season with Ottawa; Amadio and Gregor have 2; Jensen has only one; and Perron (personal) has not.
Greig and MacEwen are returning players, yet have 2 goals.
The Lack of Defensive Production
All defenders have scored once beside Hamonic and Zub (injured). Once is not enough for continued success on any lineup.
Development Issue
Greig only having two goals this season is an issue. He has to take the next step.
Pinto being scoreless in 14 straight is an issue. For a guy that had to prove himself in a suspended year for his money and to not show his worth is a problem for this organization.
The young blueliners not taking a step is a dilemma. Defense is not working in Ottawa.
The lack of time together between Stutzle, Norris, and Pinto as their top centers also shows a lack of chemistry. They have to lead and produce.
What does this club need to do to turn things around without making a move?
