The Columbus Blue Jackets stun the young Buffalo Sabres by the final score of 6-4, while losing young forwards Kent Johnson and Yegor Chinakov.

Period I

Yegor Chinakov opened the scoring on the powerplay for the home team with his second of the regular season. Former Wolverine Zach Werenski and Kent Johnson had the assists. The goal came five minutes into the game.

Kirill Marchenko expanded the Blue Jackets’ lead with 32 seconds left for his second of the year unassisted.

Period II

Ryan McLeod got his second goal as a member of the Sabres just before the halfway mark of the game. Former Minnesota Wild forwards Jason Zucker and Jordan Greenway had the assists.

Adam Fantilli regained the two goal lead with his second of the year from the top defensive pair of Werenski and Ivan Provorov.

Jiri Kulich got his first career NHL goal on Tarasov. Dylan Cozens and Henri Jokiharju collected the assists.

Mathieu Olivier recorded his first goal of the regular season. Cole Sillinger and Jake Christiansen recorded the apples.

Owen Power got his second goal of the year unassisted with 35 seconds left of the period.

Period III

Zach Aston-Reese deflected a Jake Christiansen shot 15 seconds into the final period for his first goal as a part of the Blue Jackets. Olivier had the secondary assist. ZAR would eventually be credited with the game winning goal

Damon Severson collected the Marchy pass to record his first goal of the season to conclude the home team scoring.

JJ Peterka got the final goal of the game for his third of the season with helpers from Rasmus Dahlin and Tage Thompson.

Players to Watch

Buffalo — Rasmus Dahlin — the highest paid Sabre had an assist in 26:51TOI.

Columbus — Justin Danforth — the third liner had 4 hits, the most of any forward. Danforth had 16 minutes of ice time with 2 shots on goal.

Goaltenders

Buffalo — Devon Levi allowed 6 goals on 25 shots for a 0.760 save percentage.

Columbus — Daniil Tarasov

Next Telecast: second and final meeting of the season against Evason’s former team in the Minnesota Wild at Nationwide Arena. Minnesota won the first game they played also being their first game of the regular season.
