The Ottawa Senators got blown out on the road 5-1 by Buffalo in their barn. There’s no luck for them on the road since day one of the season, beside Utah. Here’s what happened.

Period I

John-Jacob Peterka opened the scoring for the home team on the powerplay for his fifth goal of the regular season with the assist going to Jason Zucker.

Period II

Bowen Byram banged a quick one 17 seconds into the second for his second goal of the year and fifth as a Sabre from Ryan McLeod’s third helper with the Sabres and captain Rasmus Dahlin.

Ottawa broke through the Sabres’ defense with a top line push. Ridly Greig nabbed his second goal of the season with the helpers going to my Sens’ player to watch, Tim Stützle and captain Brady Tkachuk.

Period III

Byram, 21 seconds in, got his second of the night and third of the year from Jordan Greenway and McLeod.

Tage Thompson, my Sabres’ player to watch, shot in his eighth of the regular season with the assists going to Alex Tuch and Peterka.

Peterka recorded his third point of the night and second powerplay goal of the evening. The German’s sixth of the campaign was supported by Thompson and Dahlin.

Players to Watch

Tage Thompson had a goal and helped in the third period to help his team win.

Tim Stützle got a secondary assist on the Greig goal.

Goaltenders

Ukko-Pekka Lukkonnen only allowed one goal on 38 shots faced for a 0.974 save percentage.

Linus Ullmark stopped 29 of 34 Buffalo shots for an 0.853 save percentage. Two power play goals against. Two early period goals. The back breaker type goals.

OTT Three Stars of the Game

1. Ridly Greig — goal (2)
2. Brady Tkachuk — assist (9)
3. Tim Stützle — assist (11)

Next Game

At home on Thursday the seventh against the New York Islanders for their first of three matchups. Home has been where the Senators have reaped their rewards all season long. Former Senators’ Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Mike Reilly come back to town; former Sen Anthony Duclair is on the injured reserve.

More to come…
