The Ottawa Senators rallied in the third period for a high scoring 7-5 concluding matchup to the 2024-2025 NHL regular season over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Period I
Ottawa opened the scoring with three goals in a span of 5:33.
1. Adam Gaudette opened the scoring after the halfway mark of the first period for his career high 18th goal of the regular season. The snap shot was supported by Nick Cousins.
2. Dylan Cozens extended the lead with the first special teams goal of the evening. The powerplay goal is the forward’s 16th goal of the regular season. Drake Batherson and Jake Sanderson had the helpers.
3. Shane Pinto closed the first period scoring for the home team with his career high 21st goal of the campaign from Michael Amadio and Ridly Greig.
Carolina responded late with two goals in 1:45
1. Jesperi Kotkaniemi commenced the Canes’ scoring 11 seconds after the final Sens’ goal for the Finnish forward’s 12th of the year from Andrei Svechinkov and Taylor Hall.
2. Skylar Brind’Amour got his first career NHL goal with some help from William Carrier and Skylar Morrow.
Period II
The Hurricanes continued their offensive momentum with three unanswered goals through three 20 minutes.
1. Andrei Svechinkov recorded the second powerplay goal of the night, but the only one for the visitors tying the game at 3-3. The former second overall selection earned his 20th of the season from deadline addition Logan Stankoven and defender Shayne Gostisbehere.
2. Jack Roslovic got the go-ahead goal unassisted for his 22nd goal of the campaign.
3. Tyson Jost extended the lead for the forward’s fourth goal of the year from Taylor Hall.
Period III
The home squad came back with four third period goals to claim victory.
1. Gaudette had his second of the evening for his 19th of the campaign from Tim Stützle.
2. Drake Batherson tied the game at 5 all for his 25th of the regular season from deadline adds Fabian Zetterlund and Cozens.
3. Batherson had his second of the evening on the forward and the team’s seconds powerplay goal of the night. The forward’s 26th of the year is from Stützle and Cozens.
4. Tim Stützle closed the game scoring on the game’s fourth and final powerplay goal. Sanderson and Tyler Kleven had the apples.
Goaltenders
Frederik Andersen allowed 7 goals on 32 shots faced for a 0.781 save percentage.
Linus Ullmark saved 29 of 34 shots against for a 0.868 save percentage.
