Namestikov seemed like a good fit here, hope he signs.

We have a glut of forward and D going into tomorrow. Not a great “glut” a lot of 7-12 forwards and 5-6 Dmen

55 and Helly deals even more critical post-draft

I hope we add an element of toughness (Hathaway, Wood) and I would be ok with Domi on a short term

I should have added to my last comment that I hope this is the day they but out captain Wheeler. About $5.5 more of cap room, and rid of a distraction now, although he's been a great warrior on the ice. But all good things come to an end!

agree, the deadline to buyout wheeler is today. has to happen. thanks for services Wheeler.

Wheeler bought out , official

It’s the right move for all and frees up some $ for tomorrow or a trade

Wheeler has been running around Northern Manitoba being an Ambassador for TN. I don't see them buying him out while he's doing that. I think it would be a d*CK move buying him out while he's doing that.

Wheeler has provided lots of entertainment over the years - and never ever took a single shift off. But it was time to cut bait!

Feel bad for Wheeler. Was sent up north by TN to be the teams ambassador and then gets bought out. Don't get why TN would do that to him. Sending him up north.

It was said Wheeler and the Jets were working together on this. I believe Wheeler still gets like $5.5M from Jets - and this makes him a UFA and can sign where he wants and top up his $5.5. Yes, a buyout but still ok for Blake. I wish him "good luck."

Hellebuyck - I wonder if Helle extended, and possibly a third team, would the Jets-Devils consider: Helle and Heinola or Stanley (+Harkins? to the Devils for both goalies - Vanecek and Schmid (yes both), plus Nemec and a 4th piece?

But maybe after the last two drafts the Jets don't feel they need a young goalie like Schmid? If not, substitute another prospect in.

How is it a d__k move?

He’s been involved every step of the way, he’s been at the helm of this.

its a win-win and a logical ending for both sides.

I have a ton of respect for Wheeler for the hard work he put in everyday as a Jet, for the risks he took to speak out on issues where no one would have faulted him to remain silent, and for his willingness to get involved in the community. His track record reflects his pursuit of excellence to the highest standard and we were beneficiaries. Thank you 28.

I’m a fan of Wheeler leaving today.

But I’m also aware and a fan of a player that made Winnipeg his home for 12 years and I’m sure did his best to be a leader in the room and in the community.

Retire the jersey for sure

He is a huge part of the Jets 2.0 story and hope he lands on his feet and his happy

Thanks for clarifying! I didn't realize he was involved. I was like first you make him Ambassador then buy him out. That would have been ruthless.

A huge shout out to Blake for an awesome career with this franchise and for your family supporting both the team and the city for these past 12 years.

It's not Wheeler's fault that he might have been signed for maybe one year too many. Any player will try to maximize what they can get at the peak of their career.

The NHL players have gotten a lot faster and younger over the past few years and he seemed just a half-step behind in the chase to cover his men and get back on D. Same goes for the younger, bigger, and more mobile D around the league. The former Wheeler rush down the wing and getting that extra step on the D to round the corner on them became almost an impossible task. He never lost his fantastic hockey sense and passing vision right till his last day. He still remains one of the best passers in the NHL. He also never took a shift off.

Dubois gone, Wheeler gone. We are in the midst of franchise-changing moments. The future should be interesting.

Yes the future should be interesting - and exciting!

With young Forwards - Lambert, McGroarty, Rashevsky, Barlow, Chibrikov, Wagner, Zhilnik, Nehring, Nikkanen, and Torgersson - and d-men - Salomonson, Chisholm and Lundmark, plus goalies Milic, DeVincentis (spelling?), Holm and Salaminen - the future looks bright and exciting!

Not only that but we still have a fairly young nucleus of Connor, Ehlers, Morrissey, Lowry, Vilardi, Kupari and Perfetti. Plus the trade chips left of Hellebuyck and Scheifele.

Wonder if we still might flip Iafallo as well, but I hope not. The future looks brighter now!

I still think Columbus is sitting with a huge stock of D prospects. Most in the league.

Would 55 find a home in Columbus?

No, say for one year? But no, I think 55 likes the limelight, maybe yearns for the limelight of the big cities. But maybe I'm wrong, don't know the guy.

But Columbus a good idea.

Jets are making a mistake not qualifying Holm imo, he had decent AHL numbers last season, theres no guarantee DomD or Milic will pan out, better to have more goalies/assets than less.

Stenlund signs in Florida, $1M×1 year.

Of all the 4th liners the Jets had last season he looked the best though his numbers were actually worse then pretty much everyone else's, wonder what he'd be able to do with some better linemates.

A Harkins-Kupari-Stenlund line would probably be a pretty decent 4th line.

Oh well, maybe they can sign some decent bottom sixer or two, would be nice to watch some different players in those roles instead of the slugs they've had the last few years.

Glad to see Namestnikov returning in what was our big move of FA frenzy. Nammy can probably play any place except goal.

So IF we started the season right now might this be our forward lines:
Connor-Scheif-Ehlers
Perfetti-Vilardi-NN
Iafallo-Lowru-Nammy
Gustafsson-Kupari-Barron
-Appleton
- Viel

See we acquired a 5'10 LH d-man from the Sharks for Gawanke. It must be in our DNA that we draft/trade for a small LH d-man every year, right?

Viel is also new, but he can provide some grit, when he plays.

Still expecting two major player moves!

Bowness cannot come back as coach - can he?

6 1 Gwanke made a good decision career wise to leave after 4 years and not even one game with the big club. 6 4 Kovacevic must be happy to be out of the log jam as well with a full time roster spot in Mtrl.

Makes me wonder what will happen with Chisholm..... as Jets managing D assets seems challenging. Do we bet coffee now that Chisholm will end up be a waiver victim? (or waiver winner depending on whose angle you look at it from)

Got a log jam with 6-7 with Schmidt, Dillion, Pionk, Capo, Stanley

Oh and the Jets just signed AJF to 2 years..... lol Looks like they are bringing back the bottom 6
