"Another exec said an agent told him he was having a conversation with Botterill about a Buffalo free agent minutes before the Sabres announced the firing."

" But, according to multiple sources, verbally agreed-to extensions for at least player development coach Krys Barch and AHL Rochester coach Chris Taylor (two years) were approved by Botterill, delayed by ownership, and will not be honoured."

"One bit of good news: Buffalo’s head of hockey department IT, Kyle Kiebzak, was re-hired after initially being fired. His termination apparently was a mistake."

I can't imagine having to call him back and say it was a mistake

I will say this is why I am still skeptical about the Sabres long-term. As long as Pegula is allowed to treat this team like a toy, I have little confidence that this team gets anywhere near a championship.

I don't have this reservation with the Bills. The NFL clearly seems to have a very effective mandate in place: "Shut up. Put up funds when needed, and let the adults handle the things that matter."

I don't know how good or bad Raccuia was at his job. I do know that Terry and Pegula have a long history of souring with executives in both franchises after a short while. I'm guessing that's what happened here.
- buffalofan19

He was so good at his job that Pegula bought him out of 90% of his own company then to get rid of him, Terry sold the 90% to Legends.

Kim getting sick created a vacuum. The Pegula's are historically bad at making hires and filling important positions, partially because they don't and can't trust anyone.

The Ralph Krueger model of 'make a mistake and you're dead' was and probably is common in PSE.

Ron is not a very savvy businessman and he's not an esteemed personality.

Roth doesn't like him. So here we are.

Terry took over after the deal so he didn't need to face the cameras during negotiation. PSE lawyers did the leg work. Once the stadium was up Terry had the opportunity to ship Ron off to Legends.

probably the best thing for the sabres is the continuity since Kim stroked out

one additional thing is that even though you're a little distasteful about Kim's managerial abilities.......

you're not exactly wrong.

I really don't think they get directly involved in the on-ice ops like they used to. I don't think they feel they need a poho like the do in football since the operation is so much smaller. that's just an opinion.

plus last time they tried it they just trampled all over patty.

I think Greenway does have the potential to be a 20-goal middle six winger actually.

Levi, yeah I am cautiously stoked on him but you’re acting as if Roy, Barrasso, MAF and Price never happened. There literally is a precedence.

And MAF was awful his first two years. So was Roy.

He's averaging roughly 8.4 goals per season. After 5 seasons. What has he shown you to think he's got 20 goal potential? Last time he potted 20 in a season was in HS...

I'd be happy with 15 out of him tbh.

Only took them half a decade to figure out that he was bad at his job. Nice pace.

he had decent 5 on 5 numbers the 3 seasons before he came here (19-20, 20-21, 21-22)

10. Winnipeg Jets: RW Jack Quinn
Actual draft pick: No. 8 (change: -2) to Buffalo
My final ranking: No. 15 (change: +5)

Loyal readers and followers will know that even though I was lower on Quinn than where the Sabres picked him, I actually became a major proponent of his when I felt like the public discourse around him and that selection swung too negative (there was a time, during the world juniors, when the public bashing of Quinn got completely out of control). He was a legitimate winger prospect then, and he’s becoming a legitimate winger now. That he was a little bit of a late-bloomer made him more intriguing, not less. I’m a fan of the kid and the player (his work ethic, his detail, the way he plays off of his linemates, his goal-scoring instincts, etc.) and was happy to see him have a solid rookie season with the Sabres last year. He’s going to be an important piece of the future there.

15. Toronto Maple Leafs: LW JJ Peterka
Actual draft pick: No. 34 (change: +19) to Buffalo
My final ranking: No. 43 (change: +28)

Peterka has progressed really well since the draft. There was the 10 goals and 21 points in 32 regular-season and playoff games in the DEL in his post-draft. There was 80 points in 80 regular-season and playoff games as a rookie in the AHL. And then there was last year, establishing himself as an NHL regular in his second season in North America. His hardworking, driven game was always going to fit well on the smaller ice surface. When all is said and done, he’s going to be exactly the kind of player you hope to find in the second round: an up-and-down-the-lineup contributor who can produce but also gives you more than the numbers in his utility.

You don't say.

And Marco Rossi is 16

I don't recall what he was doing prior to Kim falling ill. But he had a top managerial role in large part to his 10% stake in Ad-Pro.

It's plain to the public that their ability to fill important roles is subpar at best. Their leashes for these people are very, very short.

Ron was trashed because he's full of poop and a wiener.

Think about it. Why do you think Kevo was handed the GM role? They trusted him completely. They didn't even bother searching for a GM because, and this is my opinion, they know they're bad at finding high managerial talent, and they don't trust people.
