Oh 100% he is our most important forward as of today.

I don’t think Cozens is a finished product though by any sense of the imagination and he’s already one of the best possession players in the sport in terms of exiting/entering the zone with possession.

30 + goals with room to grow, and the potential of the defensive maturation and all of a sudden the Workhorse from White Horse can definitely be the heartbeat of this team.

matthews, marner, nylander, tavares, reilly and brodie

would you rather have those 6 for the next season or tage, tuch, skinner, cozens, dahlin and power

you get 1 group for the next 82 games, who do you pick?

I think you take the Sabres group of 6.

Leafs’ forwards have the edge.

But Dahlin and Power to me are a sizeable gap over Reilly and Brodie.

Brodie may not even be a Toronto Maple Leaf by the end of the week.

Like I’ve been saying all offseason, losing Quinn is a kick in the pants, but this is a strong lineup on paper

Tage was a revelation as a 30-30 player.

He almost went 50-50 last year.

Agreed that his importance cannot be understated.

He's also a giant man, which is important too.

hawk owner passes

he has 3 kids from first wife

do they inherit the team that was passed down to him or the trophy wife?

its way more complicated than that since the Wirtz company isn't public. There are brothers, a son and nieces and nephews.

yeah. a plan was established years ago. before dollar bill even took over the team. the son danny has been president of the team for the last couple of years.

no one knows exactly how much money that family actually has. my bet is enough to make the pegulas look like paupers. they have been a business fixture in chicago for decades in real estate, banks, and beverage companies as their main ones.

10. Winnipeg Jets: RW Jack Quinn
Actual draft pick: No. 8 (change: -2) to Buffalo
My final ranking: No. 15 (change: +5)

Loyal readers and followers will know that even though I was lower on Quinn than where the Sabres picked him, I actually became a major proponent of his when I felt like the public discourse around him and that selection swung too negative (there was a time, during the world juniors, when the public bashing of Quinn got completely out of control). He was a legitimate winger prospect then, and he’s becoming a legitimate winger now. That he was a little bit of a late-bloomer made him more intriguing, not less. I’m a fan of the kid and the player (his work ethic, his detail, the way he plays off of his linemates, his goal-scoring instincts, etc.) and was happy to see him have a solid rookie season with the Sabres last year. He’s going to be an important piece of the future there.

15. Toronto Maple Leafs: LW JJ Peterka
Actual draft pick: No. 34 (change: +19) to Buffalo
My final ranking: No. 43 (change: +28)

Peterka has progressed really well since the draft. There was the 10 goals and 21 points in 32 regular-season and playoff games in the DEL in his post-draft. There was 80 points in 80 regular-season and playoff games as a rookie in the AHL. And then there was last year, establishing himself as an NHL regular in his second season in North America. His hardworking, driven game was always going to fit well on the smaller ice surface. When all is said and done, he’s going to be exactly the kind of player you hope to find in the second round: an up-and-down-the-lineup contributor who can produce but also gives you more than the numbers in his utility.

You don't say.

And Marco Rossi is 16

13. Carolina Hurricanes: G Devon Levi
Actual draft pick: No. 212 (change: +199) to Florida (now with Buffalo via trade)
My final ranking: Not ranked

Levi rises about as far as a prospect can possibly rise, and nobody can really argue with it at this point. This kid went from the CCHL to winning the world juniors’ goaltender of the year award without playing a single game in between! A year later he was at the Olympics and winning the Mike Richter Award as the NCAA’s top goalie! A year after that, he’d won the award for a second year and had played to a 5-2 record in his first seven NHL games! He might be the story of the draft when it’s all said and done.

Also I think you can also write Ryan Johnson here.

22. Washington Capitals: RHD Brock Faber
Actual draft pick: No. 45 (change: +23) to Los Angeles (now with Minnesota via trade)
My final ranking: No. 95 (change: +73)

Faber has been a fascinating case study in just how far skating and a good head on your shoulders can carry a modern defenceman. He has also grown an inch and added 10 pounds (he’s now 6-foot-1 and 200, up from 6 feet and 190 at the time of the draft, and I think I underestimated just how impressive of an athlete he was, even though we all knew he was an impressive one). His game is simple and efficient and sometimes that can really work with the right tools/smarts, even if it lacks ambition and skill in some areas. In his case, it really works.

Adams is Botts....Botts is Adams

"It’s time for another installment of Buffalo Sabres Prospect Watch as I take a look at Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. UPL is one of the Buffalo Sabres most anticipated prospects and arguably the best between the pipes. With very little time at the NHL level so far, his most polished and complete goaltending is yet to come, but the 22-year-old Finnish goalie adds a glimpse of hope to a position that hasn’t felt completely sufficient/adequate since Ryan Miller’s time in Buffalo.

With only 14 games played for the Rochester Americans last season, his role should increase and begin to give the Sabres a better idea of the net-minder that he can be. Luukkonen’s butterfly style is strong along the lower half of the net and keeps him remaining in a good position to make the initial save. It also leaves a position where he’s ready to face a possible rebound. His lateral movement is clinical. He dominates on one-on-one opportunities and can foil odd-man rushes with his ability to shift across the crease fluidly.

With Luukkonen showing some growth this past season and Buffalo having a veteran standoff between Aaron Dell, Dustin Tokarski, and Craig Anderson for those top-two spots, UPL will look to build off his momentum from last season and put an impressive campaign together this season in Rochester and try to earn his way to the number one role. I have no doubt his promotion will come soon, but for the time being, we shouldn’t rush him into the league and make him play 30 games yet. At 22, he’s still extremely young, especially in terms of goalies typical careers, and if the Sabres develop him properly, we just might have our franchise goalie.

Last game of the season, the Sabres surprised everyone and wore the original sweater. It was a complete surprise.

I remember because I took my now wife to her first Sabres game and this was the game.

Imagine that Diggs is practicing and has no issues with the team.

Meanwhile WGR and buffalo media roast into Allen and the Bills for a pathetic attempt to get a news story.

It was all garbage. Just bored NFL media during the summer months. Insanely annoying
