It's just the decay of the game that is going to eventually ruin the sport.
My son plays High School and Travel hockey. They have different rules. High School is similar to the AHL style game. Travel is under USA hockey. USA Hockey no longer allows you to separate the player from the puck. Meaning if you check a player perfectly clean without touching/playing the puck when you engage, it's a penalty. And it's making the game ridiculous. They also still call icing on PK, which is also surprising.
My kid plays defense. Last season he was backing up while a forward entered the zone. My kid slowed up and basically stopped in front of the forward..... The forward skated into him because the forward had his head down watching the puck.... and they called a penalty on him (the defender). The call was roughing. It's horrible. No hands out. No shoulder to the head or upper body. The forward literally skated into my kids chest.. - Queenie_5_hole
The game lost its personality years ago… bettman loves a soft euro style game of 10-7… the interviews suck no good commentary its all robots now |

That’s a bit of overkill, but not surprising. Everything rough, once manly, even testosterone itself is considered toxic (at least for James Cameron). Society is “progressing”, but it’s debatable. That being said, i have kids, and I have no problem limiting headshots and concussions until they’re in adulthood. If you’re an adult and want to get your head smacked around, your choice. But for a 16 year old, no thanks.
Though most of our laws and rules make little sense anyways when it comes to age. Drive a deadly weapon at 16, legally can obtain a gun at 18, but can’t drink a beer until you’re 21. Some folks think kids should be able to slice up their genitalia at 14 even if your parents don’t “affirm” your choice. Again….”progress”. This planet is wild. Makes sense to have no touching in a contact sport 😂 |

Yes, it’s overkill. In mean I like that the NHL is faster and more skill oriented. I’m fine with goons being basically extinct. I’m not saying headshots are acceptable. Just hockey is a tough sport. It doesn’t need to be overly sanitized.

There is no fighting tolerated in high school or travel hockey. That’s not what we are talking about and nobody is arguing there should be. |

Surely nobody is using the QMJHL making severe penalties for fighting as a springboard to bring up some "wussy generation" nonsense. A lot of pathetic bullpoop being passed around here as fact cause some people feel their manhood is being threatened. |

For this year and the next 4 years, would you rather have Hamilton or Quinn Hughes 1st pair RD? My impression is Quinn is faster and more dynamic, but slightly worse than Dougie defensively, and Hamilton has a harder and more well-placed shot..? |

I think you have to go with Mr. Hamilton simply because he's here. There is no acquisition cost. Plus, Dougie picked this team in free agency. I'd feel like we'd be crapping on a player shipping him to Vancouver during a rebuild after he chose us...
That said, Hamilton scored a lot of big goals for us last year. I can't see shipping him out. |

I’d much rather have Quinn. He’s a lot younger and would be more than just a 60pt d-man like Dougie.
Dougie is due for a regression and other than last year, the guy’s only hit 50pts once in 10 years, so I’m being generous calling him a 60pt player. |
|
|
|
Then we snap back into reality and realize that Dougie has a full NMC, so hes not going anywhere. We're not trading for Quinn. |

The question was who would you rather have. Obviously we’re stuck with Hamilton. |
|
|
|
And it's a nonsensical question/discussion. They don't even play on the same side lol. What a shame that we're "stuck" with an elite top pairing RHD, brutal for us! |

Then ignore the discussion and go on with your day. You don’t decide what people can/can’t talk about here.
Also, he’s a better than average d-man, but a career 0.59 pts/game isn’t elite. |

Where is this consensus listed? Your fellow high school dropouts you work with at Jiffy Lube don’t matter to anyone else.
I’m glad we have Dougie, but to act like he’s in the same conversation as guys like Makar/Fox/Josi is delusional. - jtylerm
Please enlighten me on where i said this. You just listed arguably the 3 best D in the league. Where does me saying hes a consensus top 15 D put him in the same conversation as THE 3 best? Are you okay in the head? Do you not know how rankings works?
The guy has produced at 69, 63, and 74 point paces in 3 of the last 4 years. He has paced at 18 goals a season over his past 6 years. Not to mention that he has been an incredible play-driver every single season of his career(despite not being anything more than an average skater at best), no matter what team he was on or what linemates/d-partners he's had. Those numbers ARE comparable to the likes of a Fox, Josi, and a lot of the other top guys. To say he's not elite is just an ignorant comment. Hell, to flat out says hes just 'better than average' is laughable actually. |

Just for the record, I didn’t think we were getting Quinn and I love our Dougie. Was just posing the question for the heck of it cuz it’s the off-season.
I still think it’s ironic we end up with Hamilton after it was between him and Larsson who would actually end up being the better player in that draft, and we end up having both of them for several years at different points of their careers. Wish we could have both. I loved Larsson and I’m sure he’s only more steady now than he was in his youth. |

Ah man I miss Larsson! Happy for him that he's ended up in Seattle and is having success there. |
