I hope Schwein doesn't find you!
- JimmyP

Yeah well he’s not good. Schwein has plenty of spank bank of old Lee highlights.

Missed most of the game but very nice win. If Holmstrom and Wally find their game, Islanders could have something good.

BTW Lee blows. I know all the intangibles, blah blah blah, 2 pts in 7 game and he’s slow as balls and sucks along the boards and in front of net.

The question I pose is does Nylander move the needle for the Islanders?
The second question is who could legitmately be traded the other way?
Lastly, are the Islanders legitimate contenders after this move?

It is not that Lee blows. His game is not what it once was. He is no longer the threat he once was in front of the net. At least not a top line threat. Which is why they moved him to the third. Problem was that he was not producing there either so they moved him back.

IMO...He is a third line player that can be used as net front presence on the second PP. He is still a smart player.

If Horvat was producing at the rate he was last year you would be looking at the next captain. Because that has not happen their is nothing forcing a change.

Whether the boys are tight or not. Failure will have an impact on change.

I agree with you. I hope he gets back on track but he has been very underwhelming so far.

Totally disagree on Lee as far as not being a threat at the front of the net. He draws defenders to him every time he’s in front opening space for his teammates. He’s very hard to defend in front and still has great net front presence.
As far as Lambert changing up the Lee, Horvat, Barzal line last night, it was because Barzal was invisible and not making an impact on the game. He left Lee and Horvat on the first line and dropped Barzal to the 3rd.
I dont think you will see Barzal on that line again as Lane will put him back with Lee and Bo but last night was Barzal’s worst game in a while. I think you see Barzal with a huge next game.

They don’t even have money for a 7th dman with experience never mind 10 plus million for Nylander 🤣 Plus the Isles have pretty much nothing to offer

Just too slow for todays game. He still is good along the boards and I think he is still a problem in front of the net but he just can’t move out there anymore and he still has 2 more years after this one lol.

Yep! Best thing to do is keep playing Holmstrom and Wally and hope they play well.

Solid. Still no need for 7 years but I like what he brings to the table. I would like to see what Gauthier can do for a 15-20 game stretch but they still love Martin as an every day player 🤷🏼‍♂️ I don’t care that he scored last night he shouldn’t be an automatic for every game anymore but I regress

I think the Engvail, Nelson and Palms line has continued where they left off last year. Everyone on that line has their job/strengths and it’s working. It takes a lot of pressure off Bo and Barzal’s line and is great having 2 lines that are offensive threats.
If not 7 years then the amount would have been higher and restrictive to sign everyone they signed. Cap doing what they cap was meant to do. Its effect has been exaggerated due to Covid. The cap going up in the next few years will ease its effects.🙏🏻
As far as Martin, he does his job and Lane seems to be mixing Casey and Cal into different lines which seems to be working. I have nothing against Gauthier getting a shot to prove himself.

I understand why they got the long contracts for cheaper Avg salary doesn’t mean I have to like it lol.

I get the players like security of the 7 years, and they do not want to move around, but it's very tough on the fans and for the teams to make improvements.

Of course. I think Lou’s strategy was to keep all the players they signed and it was the only way to do it.
Of course that might not have been what some the fans wanted. I just don’t know who you would have signed that was available instead of Engvail, Mayfield, sOrOkin Varly etc?

The question was whether or not he moves the needle if he is on this team?

The other component is what they would have to give up. Naturally money would be factored. Yes the Islanders do have components to offer. That is why are they still contenders after that trade with what they would give up. Remember Toronto is tight to cap as well.

But I will mark you down as a no.

That is why I see him on the third line and second PP unit. Having and Horvat on the PP kinda of a overlap.

I would be a no too because you would have to trade a key asset or two from the current roster to get Him and make the money work.
I’m willing to listen to who you’re going to trade to obtain him without losing too many pieces which actually makes the team better when getting him.

You not wrong, but what do you do when it does not work out. It always seems as though the Isles are working from a disadvantage. Sorokin's contract is not a bad contract as long as he stays healthy. It will be a steal. If you think Varly is being paid too much...(like me)... He is back-u and mentor...lol...The other way to look at it is that Isles have a couple of years to get another goalie to take Varly spot. And lets be honest the two games he has played he has been solid.

Mayfield too long.. problem is none of prospects are pushing hard enough to have let him good. Engvall term is too long. Then again, no one was breaking down the doors to come here. You need your top guys to recruit.
