Nah. I understand the sentiment, but I feel like the game has passed him by a bit. For all of the things that McDermott can be criticized for this year, his defensive playcalling isn't really one of them, all out blitz against Denver notwithstanding.

However, he can’t keep calling the defense forever and I think as a HC, the game has passed Rivera by, however, as a DC, he can bring a lot of wisdom and a calming effect to McDermott while also not being a guy who would kiss his ass. A guy McDermott trusts.

If McDermott doesn't want to call plays anymore, then I guess I don't hate it, but like I said, his playcalling might be the one thing you can't criticize him for. I also don't think he wants to relinquish those duties just yet.
