You need to make the playoffs prior to making any Cup run plans. It’s an entirely different game than the regular season.

The Sabres will have a roster paid to the cap ceiling and signed long term before knowing how any of them play in the playoffs.

It’s telling when the only person who agrees with the long term idea is the guy who thinks this comment section is the food network.

Botts was in the same position as Adams, both failed to:

- hire a good coaching staff
- install quality leadership
- properly support the core

The 23/24 Sabres are in a similar situation to the 18/19 Sabres.

Penguins tonight, coming off a 1-0 loss.

Who do you think starts in goal?

Do you see the ballofmeat going 11-7 again?

Don't really get it, if Krebs is in the Dog house send him down he's waivers eligible. If you don't have the Balls to bring up Rosen or Kulich. Try Kozak at 4C, atleast he might bring a little grit and some Faceoff wins.

It’s almost as if you have forgotten the last 3 GM’s and the higher prospect pool rankings than the current one in the last decade.

Your entire argument is 2D based. There is 0 evidence to suggest Adams can build a winning roster.

You continue to severely over value draft position and potential while ignoring critical roles that Adams fails to fill and these prospects won’t fill.

Now it’s a 10 year plan from a 5 year plan in 2020. This plan of yours that Adams is doing well, continues to move the goal posts. This is year 4 and there is no real improvement just added potential.

Which one of the GM’s fielded a 90 point+ season this past decade and finished one point out of the playoffs ?

I haven’t seen a good argument as to why this route taken by Adams is correct, reading that it’s justified now by a 10 year plan for a 2/3 year window is an interesting one.

I would just point out that Florida did more with less in 3 years.

Vegas hasn’t event existed for 10 years and they already have a cup.

Seattle already made the playoffs.

NJ is built to contend in less time.

No other ownership or GM plans like this because it’s unnecessarily slow with huge risk of failure.

How can you say this slow approach gives you the best chance at a cup window while also saying it’s failing in the short term. It’s just failing, the rest is nonsense.

Florida had a 9 year playoff drought not too long ago. Ekblad, Barkov, Huberdeau, Lundell were drafted during that run and played huge roles in what came next. I give credit for Zito selling Hubderdeau at the peak though, that’s probably one of the best trades of the last decade.

New Jersey made the playoffs once in a 8 year span prior to last years run. So really aside from a token playoff appearance, they drafted Hischier, J Hughes, L Hughes, Holtz, Mercer and Nemec who is on his way.

Expansion teams aren’t a relative comparison when they are handed strong rosters off the hop, but in Seattle’s case they aren’t anything special this year either.

I won’t argue the coaching staff and supporting the core. Good points.

The leadership thing though I think is overblown. The core have enough NHL seasons and NHL games played they don’t need babysitters, the coaching staff and supporting cast should do the trick.

Does Benson play Tonight ? Will really tell us alot about there thinking. You can't have this kid sitting games just because you want to prolong his stay until Quinn gets back. He deserves to be here and it's not just cause he's a 1st rnd pick, he's been one of there best players. If they send Benson back they had No intention of having youth grow on this roster, and ones that deserve it.

Playing games and being through the Battles and War of playoff Hockey are 2 Different things. There's where your Leadership is needed, one's who now what it takes and not just in the Playoffs but how to get there and the things you need to keep your Body juiced enough to make it through it. Leadership isn't overblown, it's just the Leadership you have that is.

Jack Eichel had one of the best playoff runs an individual has had the past decade last year and arguably was robbed of the Conn Smythe.

Good thing he had all of those previous playoff runs to fall back on.

Disagree, a 10 year plan opens all these up to comps.

Does anyone know any team in the last 20 years, that won a Stanley cup, that had a bad captain or irrelevant leadership?

I know a team that has loads of talent that ignored leadership and have been chasing it for 5+ years now...Toronto.

Why don’t Patty Marleau, Joe Thornton, or Joe Pavelski have a ring ?
