Markstrom is now reportedly off the table. Per Pagnotta and Anthony DiMarco, Flames are telling teams they're keeping him the rest of the season. - vlongo4419
oh well. hope we don't pay out the butt for Saros |

Agreed. I would just wait til the offseason at this point. No reason to force anything in the next week. |

Vegas, Edmonton, and LA are among the teams that have made calls to the Devils on Toffoli. Real interested in what Fitz does here.
If I had to guess I'd say he's extended or traded by next Friday. I'd honestly be shocked if he was still on the team post-deadline without an extension done. |

They should. They've been playing well and could take one of the west wild card spots. They can then trade him in the summer

Please, please extend him Fitz. He likes playing here, is a true goal scorer and a needed piece IMO

If he really likes it here, he'll sign in offseason.
its bad management to keep a guy with no contract, on an non playoff team, when he give us a nice package in return.

That's only if the return is better than him re-signing

We'll see what happens between now and next week but LeBrun is saying the Devils are still pushing hard for Markstrom, and are now willing to do the deal without retention. Combine that with Markstroms' comments earlier today, that should in theory make it cheaper for us, hopefully? Lol |

He’s just too old to dump Holtz and change for. Luke and Nemec won’t peak for a few years still.. and by that time, if not sooner- Markstrom will be gone/washed.. and Holtz will be nearing his prime. So.. how does this make sense? |

If there's no retention it shouldn't cost us Holtz, or a 1st. If it's just Markstrom straight up with zero retention it should be a prospect and a 2nd max imo.
Also, we just traded for a guy who doesnt nothing well at all, but he fights. So thats....something? |

A game in hand and 5pts behind Philly. What to do what to do. I almost streamed Dostal in fantasy today too 😭 |

Per Friedman on Saturday Night Headlines, "The Devils have identified Markstrom as their #1 target. They are prepared to revisit that in the offseason, so if we dont see NJ acquire a goalie with term this week, that's why."
Sounds like we're probably going to end up with Markstrom at the end of all this, whether it happens by Friday or in the offseason. |

I think it'd cost more in the summer than if we made the move now. Teams have more flexibility in the offseason and it'll allow more teams to actually get involved, which in theory should drive the price up. Flames would be smart to hold until then. |

No matter when we get him it’s the wrong move. Too old and too inconsistent. By the time this team is ready to contend he’ll be retiring. I wouldn’t be shocked if they miss playoffs again next season. |

Yep. Nemec and Luke (and Holtz) will be up to speed, our star forwards will be in their primes.. and Markstrom will be retiring. |

That's kind of the point in getting Markstrom. He's a 2 year stopgap in where he should provide you quality goaltending while also mentoring Daws/Schmid. The hope would be by the time Markstroms contract ends, one of the kids actually developed and is ready to be a #1.(imo Rogalski needs to go if we actually want hope of developing a goalie though)
That's apparently why they want him so bad. Probably the only thing that makes sense considering his age lol. |

Just turning on at the end of the 2nd.. is it the chances we’re giving up, or goalies not making stops?? |

To me a stop gap seems pointless, why let this guy build chemistry with a team just to have to get chemistry with a new guy when it’s time to compete. Trade for someone younger like saros. I know what everyone is saying but they also said we shouldn’t trade for hellebuyck and boy a vezna finalist would be a welcome addition this season. |

Friedman doesn't think Toffoli will be moved, "he's more of a wish than a likelihood for other teams this weekend." Says the Devils prefer to keep him and are going to take their chances at re-signing him. |
