Lindy Ruff has been relieved of his duties. Travis Green will take over as interim.

Friedman doesn't think Toffoli will be moved, "he's more of a wish than a likelihood for other teams this weekend." Says the Devils prefer to keep him and are going to take their chances at re-signing him.

Fine by me. Not a bad thing to have established vets that can actually score without being liabilities.
It may be time to start rooting for losses. We have our own 1st right? But heck .. then it may hurt that much more if we give up a 10th overall for an aging goalie.

Depends for me. I see a lot of people saying it's Toffoli or Holtz, which if that's the case then it's clear to me lol. If re-signing Toffoli means Holtz is gone in a trade before next season, then Toffoli better not be a Devil come Friday afternoon lol. They play the same exact way, and Toffoli is essentially just blocking Holtz from being in that role. So move Toffoli, get a good return, and play Holtz in his spot the rest of the way.

I know Todd has already voiced his displeasure about the idea of extending Toffoli, and it makes sense. https://twitter.com/ToddC...JXm9wgiikrb4a8y07MDw&s=19

Ding dong, the witch is dead........along with our playoff hopes. Why did Fitz wait so long to fire Lindy? Might have been able to save the season

Many months too late for sure lol, but better late than never I guess. Glad it's not something we're going into the offseason waiting for it to happen. Gonna be some intriguing options when they start the hiring process this summer.

He had a great season last year and I think given his multi-year extension signed beginning of this season there may have been hesitation to fire if they felt it was due to injuries and having 2 rookies (no matter how promising) on D

Now we have green who had the PP clicking at start of season which was the reason the devils won games and now a PP that is as effective as a broken fence

Devils will continue to struggle without a better d structure and goaltending

PP took a massive hit when Dougie went down, hasn't been the same since.

Did Ruff actually get fired or just moved to another position near Fitz?

I always thought that was the deal, he'd coach until Green took over. Then get some head office spot for NJ.

If all that was the plan, would a firing take all that off the table?

Hopefully the plan went out the window because green will be just as bad as ruff.

Lots of thoughts.

I don't think many of us were all that excited when we originally hired Lindy. I like the guy, seems like a good guy, but he is a B-tier coach at best. Meanwhile, Brunette has Forsberg, O'Reilly.. freaking Nyqvist, and several 4th liners, Josi.. a past his prime McDonaugh, and a bunch of 3rd pair guys in a wildcard spot. We have twice the talent of Nashville, except for goalie, and yet here we are. Ruff was never going to be the guy to take us to the Cup.

I'm surprised but relieved Fitz let him go. We don't have to wonder or worry anymore about if Ruff will be here forever. Green was never a great head coach either. Fitz's presser was encouraging.. guy said a lot of good things, answered hard questions well.. Green is about honesty and being hard to play against.. will scratch guys, except apparently some guys you never scratch,.. according to him lol. "I like the goalie that stops the puck" lol. Green's presser was overall much less inspiring than Fitz. Holtz will get opportunities and a clean slate, etc etc.

Meanwhile, just about all of the players gave cookie-cutter answers. Bratt seemed to be the most insightful out of the interviews I heard. Gotta love when they all take the blame and "we gotta play harder" "we gotta be better" "we gotta win this game". Like no kidding.. why didn't you do that weeks ago? Stupid.

Ruff isn't the scapegoat. Despite injuries and losing Brunette.. it just got to a point where this had to be done sooner or later. Brunette should be our coach but Nashville swooped in and got him. Fitz basically said he'll see who's available in the offseason, but will see how Green does here.

One more loss and I'm on the tank train. I'd like to keep Toffoli, but we do already have a vet in Palat on a crappy deal.. but Toffoli is our leading goal scorer (and will only get worse), but still. Fitz wants to keep him.

Goalies.. sheesh. Markstrom, Saros, Ullmark.. they all have yellow flags.

Gona be reallllly difficult to get a wildcard spot. I still find it hard to believe Phillly and Detroit are where they are. Pathetic this Devils team couldn't get a spot over either of them.

We played better tonight. Could've won this game with a crossbar and some other chances that were nearly goals. And the beat goes on.

I was not a big fan of Lindy either but considering the injuries and the poor goaltending he did have us around .500 which is better than i expected. It was obvious he was losing the team and had to go, hopefully the change will inject some new life in these stiffs. And as crappy as the team has been playing, Marino has been standing out to me as being extra crappy lately.

Im fine with being on the tank train. We aren't making the playoffs and we're already in the top 10 pick-wise. So sell what you can and keep losing. Toffoli needs to go, if anything he'll give us more ammo to use this offseason. Although Fitz absolutely buried Holtz yesterday, so who knows what their plan is.

Glad to see Timo finding his game, funny how hes been a lot better when actually being played in the top 6 with our best players instead of the 3rd line. He's been great the last ~10 games or so.

Gonna be some very intriguing coaching options this offseason, really excited to see which names they interview.

Dreger reporting that Tyler Toffoli is in play. Devils are looking for multiple picks or a prospect and a pick as the return. Multiple other people saying contract talks have fallen apart between the two sides, so seems more likely than not that he will be moved by Friday as there is "lots" of interest.

Better be a nice haul. Guy is a top 6 scoring winger with championship experience. Should fetch a 1st I’d imagine. And if we lose him- it even furthers my siding with a tank. Not sure I want Ullmark..

Would you be comfortable giving him the Killorn/Palat contract? Because thats the rumor of what he wants, ~6M per for 4-5 years. Seems like thats a hard pass for Fitz if what Greg Wysh is saying is true of "contract talks went nowhere, in term and $"

Keeping him would be cool but I’m sure the return would be nice. If we could also somehow move palat and haula that would be great.

Man did I miss being sellers at the deadline and looking forward to the draft.

What do we think we get in return for the Hughes bros in two years?

If we didn’t have the dumb Palat deal then it would be an easy yes- which is what I was saying about that contract complicating things down the line, even with the cap going up. I’d consider 6x4.. can’t do 5yrs. Would do 3 easily I think.

Yeah I'd be down for 3 years too. Not sure I'd go any more though. Hopefully if Fitz moves him it's because it's an offer he just can't say no to. Should easily get a 1st+ imo with 50% retained, but I guess we'll see what happens.

Man I want Toffoli on this team, but you know we’ll get a haul for him due to there being many contenders that would love to add another scorer. Wish we could resign him in the offseason for 3yrs but that’s unlikely. I mean.. the guy is our leading goal scorer lol. He works well in our top 6, and you know he’ll be money when giving 100% in the playoffs. Maybe 6x4 isn’t so crazy.
