If you lose to my hawks, who at best is a middle AHL team, you have major problems. Watch out forcthe hawks in 2-3 years.

its unreal that you could possibly wonder if its the players? this is one of the least talented teams in the league and has been for years. Trotz had them playing the only system that could possibly work at the time. They are older and slower. Keep dobson and listen to reasonable offers for everyone else.

Coaching is an issue for sure, but team roster is not good enough to be a Cup contender. If all healthy and coached well, the Islanders can battle for a playoff spot. Bo and the development of Dobson helps the overall talent, but speed and skill are still lacking. It's a new NHL and it take younger leadership.

The whole this is one of the least talented rosters blah blah blah is hyperbol.
When they win we hear nothing about this. Once they lose and look bad it’s back to the roster, 7 year deals etc etc etc.
Comical really.
This team can score and the pP is much better than it was. The problem is the team defense sucks. You’re not winning with a shat defense! It’s the same roster blah blah blah then what’s changed? The coach!
They lost against the AHL Blckhawks. No Bedard, no Foligno, no Hall or Beau.
The St Louis Blues were dreadful the year they won the cup until they changed the coach.
Their roster sucked too until they started winning.

The roster is an issue in terms of this team being able to win a Cup. Do you honestly think having Pierre and Palms on the 2nd line can help get this team to a Cup and not to mention with questions marks on the 3rd and 4th lines and defensive pairing? Islanders have shown good periods of play this year, but the combo of bad coaching and overall talent catches up with a team. If coaching is the slam dunk issue and only thing holding back the Islanders, why has Lou not made a move? Berube is available to hire.

The funny thing is I was saying the same thing when they were winning. Multiple times I said they were over performing. I don’t think they are as bad as we’ve seen recently nor do I think they are even close to being a legit cup contender. They aren’t this bad but they aren’t that great either.

In the beginning of the season I said if Dobson and or Wahlstrom had career years we may make the playoffs and then we go into the playoffs with the good ole’ “who knows” mantra. We got one half of that equation with some improvement from Holmstrom.

Change the coach. Maybe they win a bunch of games and make the playoffs. Who knows maybe another miracle happens like with the Blues and they win the cup. But to think this is a contending roster without some miracle occurring is being an complete un objective homer at this point. That’s putting it nicely.

It’s honestly hard to root for them to make the playoffs because that will more then likely lead to Lou trading our first again which will make being competitive again an even longer more painful thing.

Islanders are not a bad team just not good enough to be a true Cup contender. Islanders need everyone healthy and pulling in the same direction. This team is not built to be able to overcome a couple of key injuries and sloppy play. I have no issue changing the coach and Lou has never been shy about changing the coach before. Is something different now. Does Lou not want the spotlight on himself if he changes coaches or is ownership pushing back? Who knows.

Yeah I’m not really sure what Lou’s hesitation is with firing lane. He has always had an itchy trigger finger when it comes to firing a coach. I still think he fires lane, team wins some games, maybe they make the playoffs but don’t go far. Then what? Do the same thing next season hoping for a miracle? Shocked some fans don’t have higher expectations for the team they cheer for.

Fans can love or hate Lou, but what about ownership. Can they be happy what this team has done since the two ECF runs? If the Pens do not choke last year, this team misses the playoffs two years in a row. I do think a coaching change gives this team a boost. I just do not see another ECF run in this team with the current roster. Is a new coach going to get Pierre to be consistent and stop playing soft or for Palms to play well and injury free and turn back the clock on the 4th line? Coaching can only do so much.

Oh and as for the Bo trade and its timing being bad well….. That’s:

We would be much better off with Beau, Ratty and a shat first rounder than Bo who we can build around. Joke really

When I look at this team I think they need a first round pick maybe more then any other team in the league. To question whether this team needs to get younger by diminishing the value of it in what was considered one of the best drafts in twenty years is one of the dumber takes on here in some time. I’m sure there will be some more real terrible takes right after this post. Can’t wait keep’em coming.

I'm guessing this has been in the works for a while. Roy has been in thw Q for a good bit now, this is a really bold move by Lou.

For me, it was sort of the speed and shock factor. Roy was by no means considered even a dark horse. It's a very bold move. His firey personality is exactly what they need, but he's been out of the NHL for a long time

So much for my theory of Lou being done after the season. But my reverse jinx worked. Now we’ll find out if it’s the team or the coach.
