Tough loss. The refs certainly didn't do us any favors.
This was obviously a dismal performance for the top line. All three of them were BAD. Barzy looked like that mountain air was depriving his brain of oxygen.
Mayfield, a minus 2 and 4 penalty minutes against a ream like this hurts.
I defend Sorokin a lot and he made some massive saves to keep us tied in the third, but the gwg seemed stoppable from my sofa That said McKinnon puts heat on those one-timers so maybe not. Either way, I don't think he's been quite as inhuman this year as last. Still, we've got 99 problems and he ain't one of em.

I'm happy to get a point on the road against a team like that.

Before the game started, I thought they need to get at least a point. So they accomplished that much.

I’ll take it. Didn’t think the 2nd point was a reality when The Aves started OT on a PP.

Barzal was fuking putrid last night. Turning the puck over, forcing passes, passing up shots, among other things. He should watch MacKinnon film to see how the game is played. That dude is off the charts.

Well he is considered a top 3 to 5 player in the league
Usually

The way some go from loving and hating Barzal is funny. The 1st line has gotten it done on most nights this year. Some have a fit when Pierre sits when he has really struggled and is more of a 3rd line player than 2nd line. Barzal is not McKinnon and the Islanders are not close talent wise to the Avs. Barzal and the 1st line will have bad games like a lot of the Islander players. The Islanders are still a flawed team.

He's right there with McDavid as far as I'm concerned. The way he drives the play is unreal. Creates so much space even after moving the puck. He's a beast.

Skating wise and possession yes but the ability to make plays and finish he's not in the same zip code

Avs have elite talent across the board and are a top team league wide. Isles are more than likely a bubble team. That said barzal is their most talented player but he's not a franchise guy like the others

Tough to leave Pastrnak off that list. But I'm not sure whom he'd replace. Maybe Hughes.

I agree. Barzal is very talented but is not on their level. I think people look at the money Barzal and Bo make and expect elite production. Both players are overpaid like most players in sports.

Then again, MacKinnon has his name on the Cup. McDavid not yet anyway.

Neither is getting paid like what I would consider an elite player. That is the 11 million per year and up like McKinnon/mcdavid make.

I wonder if he’ll ever win a cup with Edmonton and if they don’t come close soon does Edmonton trade Draistal to get more depth through their lineup?

It's silly to even mention them with McKinnon or McDavid. Islanders can win with Barzal and Bo, but the overall team needs to be better.

Except in goal. They leave a lot to be desired there. But they certainly have the horses everywhere else to make up for it.

The islanders are a bubble team at best that will always have the underdog label and go into the playoffs with the “anything can happen” mantra. That’s until they do some kind of rebuild or retool. That’s just reality.

They over performed there for a bit. Their goal differential has I believe been in the negative category the entire season and they are propping themselves up on loser points. I know losing to Pittsburg 7-0 hurt that category for them when they were on the upswing for a bunch of games but it was still at a -3. Before that game I actually thought they would get themselves into the positive in that column but that didn’t happen. 😆

Agreed that Horvat trade was terrible.

And Makar. I think you could make a valid argument that he could be the second best player in the league.

Now getting back to last nights game and not the typical drivel one reads on here after a loss. The Islanders need to keep getting points and stay competitive until Pelech and Pulock come back and hopefully they will be better once they return.
I think everyone would take a point from the Aves before the game last night.

I left him off because I was just using forwards but yea he's probably second overall and Quinn Hughes isn't far behind

We would like the team to be more, but they do appear to be a bubble team and they did over perform. Offense has been better. The defense has been a challenge and losing Pulock and Pelech has not helped.

The timing of the trade was not good. Adding a Bo type player earlier would have been ideal.

Great trade he ads a shot on pp usually good on draws and can skate and play with barzal. He's a long term sign too so they can continue to build around him. If we got him in the offseason it would have been the best offseason move in the league. Lou did a sign and trade as he usually does
