10th in the league in EVG

15th in the league in EVGA

League average PK (buoyed by the fact UPL is playing out of his skull but nonetheless).

God awful PP.

Would you say one of these things are not like the other ?

Can’t wait till our PP coach is promoted to stay within the org!

You have that much faith in UPL?
- Wetbandit1

Personally, yeah. He's really taken big steps this year. He isn't ever going to win the Vezina, but if we can keep his cap hit down, I think him and Levi will be a great tandem.

Why can't we just play like that every game?

Why there a playoff team at this point. All it shows is the Sabres can compete when they actually feel like it. We can complain all we want about coaching. But when they execute they can play with most teams. It's more than just coaching!

I have been saying it for awhile...they need their leader who will drag them kicking and screaming into each game.

The evaluation period of the last two seasons revealed an ugly truth about this team that we thought wasn't an issue. They don't have their leader on the roster yet.

Last season we thought it could be one of
Dahlin, Tage, Tuch or Cozens as the leading candidates. Each has failed miserably this season. The team is virtually rudderless. To me, it starts with getting That Guy (no not you I'm that guy).

No one on this roster is untouchable, however there are several now who are unmoveable...Skinner, Dahlin, Power lead the list.

Guys who fit the desired profile are going to cost a boat load...I say, load up and start floating the boat to acquire him. To me, it is that important.

Could it not be that the guys in leadership positions, particularly Kyle and Zemgus, are holding back other leaders from taking the reins? I mean, Cozens may have leadership qualities, but not sure we'd know.

Personally, I think the leadership trait is really overblown. We've brought in all types of leaders and former captains...as an example, is the team better with Eric Johnson? We're trying to get rid of Okposo as quickly as possible and he's widely accepted as a good leader. How did RoR do? Did Pommer help on his return? The Berglund fiasco...the list goes on and on.

Why not just go out and assemble a GOOD team? I don't care if they're all silent tbh.

Is it the coach or the players. When they feel like playing they can play with anyone. Yes the PP sucks but there other numbers aren't horrible. Definitely some pieces that need to be added, but it seems when they play the game they are supposed to play they can do good things.
- Buff36

Now to add on to my last post...

The fix, IMO isn't a singular solution of bringing in a bonafide leader. Not by any means. Further, I don't trust Adams to make the right evaluation either...and I don't agree on his roster and pipeline construction either. So GM change is in order.

Further, the Coaching Staff has been shown to be Junior quality, if that. So, I believe the entirety of the staff should be released of their duties, but they won't dump Donnie given the extention in-place.
At a minimum, all Assistant Coaches got to go. Period

Lastly, if Pegula isn't selling then he needs to replace himself with a bonafide President to set the vision for the Organization

I think you are throwing the baby out with the bath water. Just because you are named a leader, doesn't mean you are effective at it.
Non of those guys are the caliber of theleadership I'm talking about. Think Messier, Trottier, Clark, Stamkos etc...true upper echelon.
Pommer? Not a chance in hell, the most milquetoast guy in the league.
Kyle? Where was he when Euchel was supposedly tearing the team apart, silent.

The last good leaders the team has had is the two headed monster in Briere and Drury, with Drury being the key guy IMO.
He is the model within the confines of Sabre Captains. I would consider ROR a solid choice, but the Org caved to Euchel and neutered him.

Being named a Captain is not indicative of being a true leader...something the Sabres have been woefully short in realizing.

The GM allows the team to eat mild chicken wings with pineapple pizza...they were doomed from the beginning. Isn't that the first question you ask in prospect interviews!?!?

GM: "Hey kid, good to meet you, welcome to Buffalo....you don't eat pineapple on pizza do you?

Prospect: "Yes I find it healthy and refreshing"

GM: "Thank you for your time"

Result, draft pepperoni pizza eaters...those guys have the grease in their veins to get to the net. The extra hot wing eaters you know have speed, those farts really move them up the ice (McDavid drinks an entire bottle of Franks red before every game).

Basic understanding of human biology could improve this team by 7 points...figure it out Adams.

Worst possible thing that can happen is some lucky win streak right now. It will create false hope and security, nullifying the drastic changes needed

Of course it is more then just coaching.

The organizational rot starts from the too.

The Kings have been playing mostly bad hockey for a while now.

- kingcong39

Sure, but they have still done enough to be in a playoff spot. And agree where the Rot starts.
Doesn't take away the fact when the players on the ice Compete and execute they can beat good teams. Just No consistency with that.

He will get multiple offers, sit on them all, make unrealistic counter offers, low ball Casey on an offer to stay, Casey’s agent will reject, he lets him walk for 1/2 of what he could have gotten

at the end of the day, they are 14th in the east right now with the sens on our heals

the habs are ahead of us

with all of our scoring, which is better on paper than the habs
2 first overall picks on d
better goalie

team is a bunch of underachievers and it starts with the owner, gm and coaching staff

classic case of they got caught up reading projections for 23-24 season and forgot to make the few moves to get us in the top 8

Adams has to assess the market by entertaining offers. He will find that Mitts will cost him a lot more than he thinks based on what teams are willing to offer for him. He will figure out a way to screw up any good return for him.
I bet he commands an 8 year 7-7.5 per easily l, which we can’t afford.
You are right that there is no pressure to get this done now due to his RFA status, but serious offers will come in before the deadline that will further complicate things for Adams

Cap space wasted / pegula dollars down the drain:

Okpsos
Erik Johnson
Jost
Olofsson
Greenway
Comrie
Bryson

Pegula isn’t mad about spending to the cap. But he should be mad at all the wasted millions of dollars on these players.
