I'd bet Donnie fought to keep his assistants last summer and won.
- Lunaion

Was it not said he wasn't able to pick his assistants? I really dont know the situation.I doubt he has any connection to Matt Freakin' Ellis

Think people were serious about it last year with Samuelsson. Can't imagine anyone isn't joking around with Bryson.
- Lunaion

6-0 isn’t anything to laugh at 😀

So it's more of an honorary position than a job?
- Lunaion

Pres of Hockey Ops can oversee all other major aspects of the organization, while the GM working under him can solely focus on the team’s roster. From game day fan experience concerns like ordering more jalapeños and hiring a “hype girl” and an arena dj. He makes sure the boards are straight and true and the posts are all nice and freshly painted red when the game begins.

Sabres played their best game of the season without power and samuelsson

Probably just coincidence

Those 2 guys suck at playing the defense

- Boss34

I've watched Power be the best d-man on the ice for this team. I've also seen him struggle, which is pretty expected for a 20 year old paired with the garbage hes been given.

Im just saying the position would suit him better.

I could not care less if hes in the FO. Clearly Pegula needs trust, as some here have said. KA has his trust. Just elevate him as your trusty man and get a real GM.

- DirtyDan

If you were a top GM candidate, what would you think of that situation? Reporting to the guy who failed up and has an unhealthy attachment to the roster and staff? Don't most GM's want to make changes, bring in their guys, and implement their vision?

Think you can only go that route if the next GM is already in the organization/Harbour Center.

Out of curiosity, if you could sign one guy of these two options which would you:

1) High energy, defensively sound, physical player but a church mouse in the locker room
2) Great leader, brings experience and SC winning pedigree but not physically imposing or great at any particular aspect of the game

Both are 25pt players on average, so bottom6 guys.

- QuinnFan

1.
However, that would be a day 10 of FA acquisition and have my Asst GM's Secretary focused on that.

The rest of the FO is focused on ID'g, Negotiating a trade for a Matthew Tkachuk type player to lead my team,

I’m waiting for power to do anything of significance on offense (his numbers suck) and defense .

He’s terrible half the time and ok the other half.

When is he going to justify the 1OA pick and heavy extension?

Well I'm sure whomever the candidate is would want to establish the bold.

Plans are never set in stone. Many variable come into effect and plans need to be changed. As we can see the org. needs to change its course even if slightly.

That candidate would have the discussions with KA and crew to decide if their vision could help the current course or if the sides come to an agreement on where the set course needs to be changed.

Again IDC if KA is here to oversee whatever the future is. I just think he would be better suited in the hockey Ops position. If Pegula still needs him here for the trust aspect, then hey shoot.

Just get a real GM.

He's 21. He'll be fine.

The amount of times I've heard this crap here just for said player to become a favorite is actually hilarious.

I guess that's the big quandry then, if guys are thought to be leaders and aren't, how are you going to identify one to bring in?

Eric Johnson won a cup in a leadership position, so it worked for the Avs. Why do these guys go from tigers to kittens on our team? Also, the guys you mentioned were all HOF level players...which we likely don't have and aren't up for sale on other teams either. IF that's what's needed, aren't we just completely fooked?

- QuinnFan

Nathan MacKinnon hasn't eaten a single carb in over a decade.

Are there any MacKinnon, Rantanen, Makar or Toews types on the Sabres?

How about the vast array of depth the Avalanche have - How does the Sabres depth compare to theirs?

The bottom line seems to be one team had accountability team wide while another does not, and no single player is going to change that.

You need it from the very top of your org. all the way to the lowest levels.

That starts with stopping the bullpoop about not having the playoffs be the bottom line goal.

I saw some of the game vs the Blues. I watched Power follow the puck out to the half wall, then chase the puck as it was moved down low, eventually he’s standing by the side of the net as the puck is passed out to the front of the net and Blues score. It seems a team issue, if he’s chasing the puck all around the d zone, where were the other Sabres? They all seemed pretty slack in their defensive play. Idk if you could even call it chasing the puck, they were more like just kind of following it around their zone vs the Blues.

A lot of blame gets thrown around here to the wrong players on just about every negative play.

We scored 1 goal the prior 2 games to last night and some here were blaming UPL

This all started as year 1 of Ralph was better than people remember. I stand by that.

Ralph, Donnie, Phil. None of them had answers when things got tough. Ralph and Donnie are 1 system coaches.

High quality and HoF players get traded.

If the Org is serious about winning, which I seriously question, then go get the guy that has the will to win at all costs.

This Org hasn't had alot of them...and think about this...the ones that were of that breed..well they chased them out of the organization

It is pathetic.
Is it a coincidence that they have never won a SC in 53 seasons?

They have the assets to overpay and find that guy..they don't have the skills to do so.
That is their limitation.

- IonSabres

When's the last HOF Captain type to get traded? I certainly don't consider anyone on our list to be HOF worthy, so have we not had that level player since Gilbert?

I think Kev has done some great things in his tenure. And some not so great.

He had a lead scout crying at the draft as to how much hes meant to the scouting department and the FO.

The problem is when it comes to GM'ing he doesn't have it. Promote him to Pres. of Hockey Ops. I think it'd be a fitting position for him.And then get yourself a real GM to speed this thing up properly.

- DirtyDan

Forton was crying because Adams listened to him and let him pick this guy:

Power is definitely good at faking people out, he’s got Dan thinking he’s the best Sabres defender

They don’t miss him one bit last night, maybe it was coincidence?

Maybe power plays with zero emotion and has been a major disappointment both offensively and defensively

The Kings have generally stunk for a while now, which is why they fired their coach, and they sucked last night, totally mailing in their 'performance'.

A much better barometer will be tomorrow nights game against a true top notch opponent.

Reinhart with the hat trick tomorrow night?

Yeah, it’s ok to call a young guy out for his terrible play

Power being 21, hope he learns the game better sooner then later

Also, good luck tomorrow night, I’ll be there….

Anytime you beat a team 7-0 it’s a good night. Idc who it is.

The same Kings beat the Oilers 4-0 the other night.

A win is a win, enjoy it for 24 hours.

Got lots of time to be miserable ffs
