I get frustrated by Norris's play like many people. But I still say we don't know exactly the type of player he will become. It takes a full season to recover from the type of shoulder injury he had. Plus he only turns 25 this season. Missing a full year will slow the development pace down. This last bit of the season will go a long way to seeing him develop more. Plus a full offseason of training.

The next stage of development for many of these players will be to bulk up the muscle a bit more .... Stutzle, Norris, Sanderson ..... This is still a young team and no one really knows how they will develop.

Like many, I don't expect to see any major changes until the offseason. But I am still pretty certain that we will have 2 first round picks and at least 1 second round pick. This team needs to start restocking the cupboards.

It is a young team just beginning to accept that winning teams play good team defence.

To be fair to AlfiesKing.
Im also fine with trading Norris. He's Turris 2.0 Send him to Nashville with Boston's pick

And..I'll take one for the team, anyone who's been here long enough knows I was bullish on Colin White. Guess I read that one wrong.

The karlsson thing is tough. I still think he has another couple 70-90 points seasons in him. He simply steals all the oxygen in the room....and hogs the puck on the ice. Everyone stands around and waits while he skates it up the ice. 4/5 times that's great the other time it's going back the other way and in the net.

I still think there's a better play with Nashville.
Chabbot
Korpisalo
Boston's 1st round pick

for

Saros
Tyson Barrie
And some mid tier Nashville prospect our scouts are familiar with

I like Karlsson but think he is no longer a fit for us.

Can Sens win a Stanley Cup with Sanderson as their #1? I think so.

Is Zub the right partner for Sanderson? Yes. So good last night.

Are Chabot and Chychrun the right match? Maybe not.

Are JBD and Brannstrom NHL Dmen? Yes

Does Kleven make this team next year? I think so. Solid +/- (Belleville)

No trades for Ds until they give Guenette and Kleven a really good look. Just move the obvious players at trade deadline or let them walk at the end of the season. Some players are just starting to figure it out since Martin and Alfie took over. It's a process and it takes time and some will take longer than others. Just let the season play out and we might be surprised with some individual player's progress.

That win against Dallas might have been Ottawa's best and most complete game all season. Was that almost a smile on Jacques face? LOL.

What could have been had they fired Smith to start the year.

Guenette doesn't get discussed as much, maybe because he was a late pick. Does he have real potential to be an NHL contributor?

I think some trades will have to be made simply to create cap space to look at what we have in Belliville. Right now they don't have much room for movement. And people that would have made the team outtta camp but didn't due to cap restrictions have to be given a shot after trade deadline.

Agreed... though I would have to say that game from the Stars was analogous to how OTT played against ANA the other night. Basically, only one team showed up, and in this case it happened to be the Senators. It's a good reminder to the Korpisalo/Forsberg-haters that even high-end goaltenders like Oettinger will get shelled if the team plays that badly in front of them.

Either way, they're now 9-3-3 since mid-January... where the 3 OT points have come vs. BOS/WPG/FLA. Beyond the VGK game, they have a stretch of 10 games where only 2 opponents are holding down playoff spots (PHI/LAK). The estimated playoff line in the Eastern Conference has reduced down to the low-90's due to the drop-off in the play of TBL and the other key wild card contenders (NJD, PIT, NYI). It's really too bad they delayed firing DJ Smith for as long as they did.

Imagine how pumped we would be if they had not stumbled against Anaheim and Chicago. Yet, Anaheim and Chicago might be important moments for the young Sens and their fans.

We know they are good, they know they are good and the rest of the league knows they are good. They are far better team than their record shows. But this is the NHL and you can't take a night off or play down to your opposition.

If they are relevant in the last weeks of the season I will be happy.

I am okay with Jacques Martin staying another year.

Pinto has made a difference. Saw report that his ask will be north of $6m on a long term deal. Doable under the projected cap for next year. Assumes Tarasenko (or replacement) stays in the range of a $5m to $6m cap hit. Also assumes modest increase for Brannstrom and no change in goaltending cost.

On a 6 year deal, I'd have to think that Pinto comes in at $6M to $7M.
As for Brannstrom, I'd be surprised if he was on the roster to start next year. We have Sanderson and Chabot as LHD options to carry the puck up ice. Kleven will likely have the #3 LHD spot. So there should be a $1M savings over Brannstrom.

no team will take 7 years of retention and no thanks on PLD at any price
- Mithos
Fair point. With that said, San Jose will need to hit the cap floor, getting picks and prospects is great for them - I think a player like Chabot would be more digestible
