On one hand, Madden is very well connected and has a lot of legit Penguin news. He was talking about Dubas to Pittsburgh when no one was even thinking about it. As someone else, FSG and Mario was another big story he reported.

On the other hand, he's a shock jockey. His job is to get you to listen and engage with him, good and bad. He loves a good story, especially one that is going to cause questions/debate. He's also the guy that last year was saying we should've signed Trocheck instead of Malkin.

Exactly. You have to sift through all the garbage to hear the stuff worth listening to.

I'll add this... When the Pens lost out on the CORRUPT casino deal, MM hammered the local/state politicians every single day. Absolutely crucified them non stop. It absolutely had a huge effect on the Pens eventually getting a deal to stay in Pittsburgh.

Dubas talking to the media and essentially saying he wants to get younger, but he also wants to see what we do the next few weeks. I wonder if it's all just a game to get leverage and increase the prices on some players. I read multiple reports we have been getting calls on multiple players asking if they are available. He can just sit back and wait until someone gives him an offer he can't refuse

GMs never really say the truth so take it for what it is.

He certainly liked to use the advice from Lou which was, if you have time, use it. So he'll wait until he needs to make a move or the deal is right.

I'm curious as an outsider to see what he does with the pens at the deadline. I think it's a foregone conclusion they just aren't squeaking into the playoffs this year. I think Crosby + Malkin and co CAN do it. It's just a matter of injecting the right couple younger guys into the mix.

I don't know if it's legit but Chabot or Chickenrun in ottawa I've heard are available. Karlsson being dealt "back home?"

I've met Madden. When he's out of character he's a normal guy, but he will jump into character if anybody starts trying to give him crap.

5/6 of the top 6 is 30+. All on $5m+ deals.

Ek eating $11m doesn’t help either.

They really should have done this 4-5 yrs ago. Signing rust rak into their mid 30s then bringing in guys like smith Eller and more bottom 6 plugs over 30 was dumb.

I predict Guentzel to Edm or Vancouver

Smith to Tampa Bay or Vegas

Rust or Rakell to Detroit

I think Ned and Eller get traded as well.

Ned I think if we did a Edmonton deal he will go with Jake in the deal to increase the package we get back

Lol....no he's not. I wish 93.7 offered something better than 24/7 Steeler QB discussions.

I don't think Rust or Rak get moved. I'm hoping Dubas is able to get a couple of good prospects instead of just picks.

Yeah a first or 2nd in the draft won’t make an impact for 2-3 years. They need nhl ready prospects.

Madden's solo or caller spots are pretty repetitive so I only need a couple segments of that and I'm good. Although I'd rather here that then listen to the Fan debate a bunch of mid to lower level QBs.

I think his interviews are excellent though and at least his show focuses on the Pens So chances are if I'm driving around, I'll check it out.

Ammo is ammo though. If you can trade Rackell, shed the salary and get a pick that could be helpful in a trade it makes a lot of sense.

Also, though it is very unlikely a 1st or 2nd rounder contributes over the next couple years, every year there are a couple long shots that make it and contribute way sooner than expected. Heck, our first rounder last year, Yager, could end up in the NHL next season.

He’s funny. When Jagr watch #? was going on and he convinced yinzer football fans who decided to like hockey for 2 months that the pens were trading Crosby for Jagr it was funny.

I agree that the picks we acquire probably won't help us. I wonder if Dubas would be aggressive and trade the picks we acquire for some younger talent especially since he talked about getting younger.

He wants to get younger just 8 months after actively choosing to sign a bunch of old vets with no offensive pulse.

I didn't watch the presser, but I saw some interesting quotes. My biggest takeaway is he's not considering moving Sid, Geno, Letang and EK. EK is now considered the core. Everybody else is available, although as we know, some of those contracts aren't moveable.

I'm now positive Jake is getting moved and I think he's going to attempt to get some younger players or NHL ready/close prospects in any deal he makes. Teams don't seem to be willing to move top prospects, but I'd think Jake might be an exception.

Jarry is an interesting case... Having a pretty good year, signed at a decent number. He might bring back a good prospect too.

I don't think any other player is getting more than a mid-round pick.

We are where we are, no point in being concerned that it should have been done years ago (probably should have).

Maybe next year can be different. Change up how it's going. Dubas made some sneaky trades that I liked in Toronto, like Timmins.
