I'm going to take a wild guess that the vets on the team couldn't franking stand him after that.

You’re probably right about that.

The vast majority of people don't give a flying (frank) anymore.

They are probably more focused on his newborns and his new family and the kind of dad he is, how he treats his teammates...you know the actual important stuff when judging a human being.

I'm talking about the vets on the Red Wings when his personal innerwebs medical research meant he couldn't play games.

Different angles and positions of goalie...one is shrinking to absorb a shot, but I get what youre saying.
But the new vs wood still have a big impact as well.

If he's unvaccinated, his risk would actually be many hundreds of times higher than if he was.

If they are carbon fibre machine guns why can't all players just take a snapshot from the blue line on a rush and it go in like the good old days?
- Santo_44

Some still can.
Not all could back then.

Yeah that is possible.

Was a different time, doesn't mean a thing to me now.

Also its just a game at the end of the day, really didn't matter that he was missing games.

Agreed the wood sticks vs current space technology sticks doesn't cancel out the differences.

This picture also made me feel woozy and light headed due to a lack of blood above my waist.

The goalie pads were wider, gloves a bit bigger but the level of protection in pants, arm and chest pads and masks, skates and gloves was so bad back then. Every shot hurt the only ? was how much would it hurt.

What about Granlund 50% retained?

2.5M for 2 years to lock down 3C would be some tidy work.

Another gem from Siegel:

The Leafs need Bertuzzi to score too. They need him to lead the second wave of scoring behind the big four forwards. He’s paid to do so. The question is whether that’s still in him. Bertuzzi has scored 15 goals in his last 102 regular season games.

bertuzzi firing over the empty net the other night still makes me laugh

almost as much as that one ceci shot during the playoffs

If you want to truly hate Bertuzzi, go watch a game live, and just follow him when he's on the ice.

His positioning is baffling. He's never where he should be.

I'm guessing Marner absolutely franking hates him, because I've seen them bump into each other at least a dozen times - always on the right side of the ice.

- Atomic Wedgie

each time he falls to the ice, you chug or do a shot

His phobia of pointy things
- Santo_44

That makes no sense. Whatever I think of his approach to vaccines I still want him to be an effective contributor to the Leafs.

I could absolutely live with it if hr was doing lots of good things not just not scoring. But he’s not. Both Wedgie and Scabeh listed his weaknesses and I’ve talked about them lots. If he turns into a playoff beast, great. But right now he’s ungood.

I don't know what to expect/think about Bertuzzi but we're rolling with him now.

All the underlying stats point to him being a positive player who can't shoot the puck into the net to save his life. Aside from a year or two his career has kind of looked the same.

I have no idea what to expect come playoffs but there's little doubt this team is full of offense that has, for whatever reason, not always translated to playoff offense. So why not give this a try.

I don't really like either Bert or Domi but hockey-voodoo probably dictates that they will be playoff hero's.

This.

If you're going to dump another 1st, dump it for a guy that's healthy, young enough to stay for a while, and has at least 2 years of term so he can be re-signed after Tavares' $11m drops off....and he gets (frank)ing sent to any where other than this team.

- underhill14

Completely agree with this. Much like the deal for Muzzin a few years back you were getting a player with term.

I would hope the player the Leafs pursue is Paryako -- has term - but St Louis overpaid him a bit - and they look like they need a house-cleaning. Paryako would essentially take Brodie's money next year - Tanev by comparison is older and would put you in the position to have to resign him for next season.

I happen to think that large player like Paryako would have more of a positive impact on the Leafs D mindset than resigning Brodie or signing Tanev.

it seems pretty clear that Benoit will be here - and has a physical edge that only McCabe has from the incumbents. With Gio & Brodie unlikely to return next year - that would set you up for the playoffs and for the subsequent seasons as well

Was not talking about you.

And good, he will be cheaper when they sign him long term.

Giggy was not the only reason why but I think he was the straw that broke the camels back as far as the NHL deciding to crack down on the size of goalie gear.

Garth Snow likely was the cause of serious discussion and Giggy the "ok this is insane we have to do something about this asap" moment.

It was a bit funny as a goalie who has never really wanted to wear huge gear (I have always preferred mobility and sacrificed some protection for it) to see how far the pendulum swung at one point on this though.

Anyone remember when Marty Turco and Mike Smith took a bit of a shot at Lulongo by putting big cardboard leg flaps on their pads with a #1 on them for practice right around when the NHL made Lulongo remove the outer knee leg flap from his pads (but they didn't make any other NHL goalie do so)?

I wish I could find a pic of it - I remember thinking it was hillarious.
