To be honest, I've always wondered if this is how pro sports is going to end up.

HD TV changed everything. You can now make the argument that it's better to watch a game at home.

As the technology gets more and more advanced, maybe (just maybe) we'll see a trend towards smaller stadia and arenas.

Keep in mind this is more of a beer-fueled idea than anything.

- Atomic Wedgie

Logistically for wandering sporting events (Olympics, fifa etc) i could it being the case. Where they move away from building new arenas/complexes etc and they just go to cities that them already.
But for gate driven leagues like the nhl, the current size of the arenas seems to work. I don't see them going to ohl sized arenas

Naw man, going in person is always its own thing. Doesn't matter how good the tv is.

Nothing is on my throat, my kids, gf's or any other womens throat right now...outside of lack of funding for hospitals thanks to the Ontario government.
The boot matters. Only from certain people does it land on the throat, most of the time its just on the hand

Fair enough. Personal perspective and situations do matter, but I stand by my original point as it pertains to my experience.

I don’t drink and I’ve had some of the same thoughts. I also wonder when the young climate activists are going to turn their attention to pro sports. The carbon footprint of a pro sports team must be enormous.

Now they are busy explaining why their new waiver pickup is making online videos of himself with a white powdery substance 😆

We will get clarity closer to waivers in an hour, but expectation is Arizona is going to waive Adam Ruzicka for the purposes of contract termination.

Successful NHL franchises are real estate ventures with skates. If your team can make a small profit, break even or just lose a bit, the increasing value of the real estate increases franchise value.

I've thought about that also. Personally, I don't really miss going to games. Part of that is just getting older and just not having the energy/will to fight traffic, park, do a ton of walking/climbing, and then turn around and do it again in reverse when the game is over. Part of it is the price of attending, which just keeps increasing.

I feel quite content to have two streams open in two browser tabs, one set to full-screen, and watch the game while I pooppost on HB. I can smoke, drink, do whatever the (frank) I want. You can't put a price on that.

When I was younger, different thinking, but now, not so much.

I feel this way about Blue Jays games now.

The tickets are cheap, and even the transportation is easy (it's downtown, on the subway line), but I'd much rather just sit in my backyard and watch it (or not watch it) on TV.

And a buddy up the street is a huge Blue Jays fan, and he put an 85" TV in his backyard. It's a much better experience to watch the game there with friends.

Posting video online of oneself doing cocaine is a curious choice.

I love this modern phenomenon of people filming themselves doing illegal and/or fireable things and then publishing it of their own free will. It's just magic, it's wonderful.

I went to a game there in 1996.

We went drinking first at Ybor City, then took the antique streetcar to the game.

It was franking glorious.

The best part is he shows the "white substance," then, as if that isn't incriminating enough, flips the camera to show his face, leaving him absolutely no recourse to say someone stole his phone or some other BS

I enjoy going to a game once in a while...a couple of Jays game each year, maybe a leafs game or two every two years.
But watching at home, a friends house or a bar is preferable long term. I would never buy a seasons ticket for any team, as im simply not interested in being with 20 - 50000 people that much....plus travel, parking, beer and food.

Traffic back then wasn't nearly as bad. That's when I went to games. We might have been at the same game.

Downtown Tampa is a lot crazier and more crowded now. Somebody young and rich would probably like it. I'm neither of those.

I was talking about since 94 and forgot all about Carolina when Sundin was injured.
But ya 93 was the big one....so 4 appearances in 31 years.

They were fun runs, we desperately need another one.

- Fakepartofme

That '94 vibe (before Sundin came back, and they collectively ran out of gas), is exactly the sort of vibe you want heading into the playoffs. The last 6 games is the first time I've seen the Leafs play anything like that this year.
Encouraging.
