I do think Dallas pays up with a 1st plus another asset.

Does Chicago do another McCabe trade with Murphy 50% retained? I don't know, Tre will have to get creative if he wants a legit top 4 RHD with term.

There have been some rumours of Mantha to Toronto, double retained and I am intrigued.

- Santo_44

I would really like Mantha.

Some of you are real jerks. I tried to fight it but went out to the bakery to get buns for a couple of hotdogs I also caved and am watching Masters of the Air, but I wanted to binge watch it.

I wanted to watch it because I fly in a similar plane to the B-17.

I’m ensconced in bush pilot avaiation.

So it’s kinda neat seeing how similar the controls are in the plane, and a lot of the pilot terminology etc. I rent out a room to a DC-3 pilot. They never shut up about aviation.

I have a rule at my house. No talking about work after work. Good way to keep the crowds away..

I didn't shoot down Risto. Ever.

I like your idea of Risto and Konecny. A lot.

Knies, Matthews, Marner
Bert, Domi, Nylander
Konecny, Tavares, Jarnkrok

Rielly, Risto
Beniot, McCabe

Would be (frank)ing awesome for a top 9 and top 4.

They probably do.

I literally know nothing about planes, and they don’t do anything for me.

Oleksiak is better than Ristolainen. Risto is slow - most metrics show that he is decent 1-on-1 and a good checker, but he is slow to get to the puck, slow to retrieval, not a very good passer and not particularly good at getting the puck out of his zone with control. Oleksiak is better at all of these things - including being not as slow.

Idk, I’d have to dig around I guess..

Risto is younger and puts up more pts. But I’m fine with Oleksiak as a mid pairing guy. Especially if he can play both sides.

Not for nothing Monkey but we don't need the guy to be fast.

Schenn was fantastic partnered with Rielly. Slow AF but great with Rielly.

To me, as long as there is one guy to clear the crease and break up a cycle with size and snarl and another guy to get the puck out, then the pair works.

Beniot, McCabe

Rielly, Schenn

Gio, Lily

Brodie, Lily

One defensive guy and one offensive-defensive guy. That's the recipe for me.

Everyone always bags on Risto but every time we play against him he's a total pain in the Richard to play against. And I kinda don't remember him being noticeably slow, definitely not Schenn slow. (And Schenn fixed that weakness with experience and good positioning.)

How does Murphy measure in terms of quality? I know he's big and plays top 4 minutes but don't know much about him. Poor kid has been stuck on some bad teams.

The idea of McCabe type trade is interesting. Him at 2.2M for a first+ could be really good for the Cap.

- The Law

I haven't paid attention to him this season, he is injured right now.

Last few seasons he has been what McCabe has been...maybe a bit worse with the puck but a better PKer.

Murray seeing pucks today apparently.

He is likely their 3rd stringer for playoffs...trade Jones for a pick.

Probably another month of slowly getting him up to standards, week or 2 of full practice, 2 week conditioning stint on the Marlies and then cap does not count in playoffs.

That is the million dollar question. Tanev checks a lot of boxes as well - but he should never be worth as much as is being reported. He's right-handed, plays tough minutes, is a performer, would enable Rielly to roam - and he has some excellent D-Zone retrieval and exit numbers. He isn't at the same level of impact of an Ekholm, but . . .
- Monkeypunk

You're going to have to define what you consider "impact" measures and what role you expect these players to perform.

Tanev is a far superior defensive d-man than Ekholm - he is an elite shot blocker, plays a heavy dZone load, and has zero PP time (which affects his meager oZone numbers).

Ekholm is clearly a superior two-way defenseman, but Tanev meets every conceivable need for the Leafs and should be the obvious target. I would argue he would have more impact than a guy like Ekholm (on this team).

Having said that, with Tanev being UFA you would think his price wouldn't be astronomical - but supply and demand carries the day, amirite?

Just hope the Leafs don't overpay for his services. (for the record, I don't think the Leafs land him)

They can put him on a LTIR conditioning loan that can last 3 games, plus Leafs can request another 2 games and reading back this is almost always granted. Given the surgery and the amount of time missed it would very likely be granted.

Murray would not count against the cap in this scenario.

So yeah, Murray can play up to 5 games before playoffs in the AHL. He can also practice as much as he needs to beforehand.

Marlies play until April 17th, conveniently the Leafs last game of the season as well.

He has been pretty excellent defensively as well.

Not sure why he is not on the PK. His stats from previous seasons show he is effective there.
