I don't know if Keefe has the time and patience to let it happen. They played together a few times this year and while they weren't that bad together (+2 in 42 minutes and a 54% xGF), I recall them getting caught too often. Because Rielly is a roamer and a pincher, McCabe wasn't reading his tendencies well and McCabe made several ill-advised pinches - or just forays into the O-zone leaving two forwards back. I guess it only resulted in 1 5v5 goal against, but . . .if I were a coach, I might have been inclined to pull the plug on it, too.
Then again I think McCabe has really found a groove of late - he's fit in very well with a few guys, but especially he and Benoit.
Tanev is presently paired up with Hanifin, and they're decent together. Hanifin is a little more offensive-minded, but probably a lot more "2-way" than Rielly.
It's a tough read. For me the ideal thing is the same thing we've been looking for since Lou arrived - a right handed top pairing guy who can compliment Morgan Rielly effectively. Who could that be who is possibly available? - Monkeypunk
This season, Hanifin has been asked to play a more defensive role alongside Tanev. I can't see Rielly being asked to do the same and it would be a waste having Tanev - a shutdown defender - play big minutes with an uber-rover like Rielly as part of an offensive pairing.
Keefe may have no choice but to reconsider auditioning McCabe again for the top pair role. 🤷 |

I dont believe so. I recall something like that last year.
Or maybe it was signing?
Damn beer memory - Fakepartofme
Pretty certain players picked off of waivers post-TDL are ineligible for post-season play. Sort of like how players signing after the TDL are also ineligible.
Of course, I could be completely wrong. Which is definitely a possibility. |

He may have.
But bourne wasnt discussing a rumour, he simply presented as who from the isles (who are 9pts out) would we go after. |

Yeah, I mean every contender should be putting an offer in if made available.
Good contract for 2 playoff runs.
Doubtful LL does the right thing anyways. |

Honest question here. If the leafs waited til after the trade deadline to drop Jones to the minors would a team that grabs him be allowed to use him in the post season? At either level? - Dozzer
No, they can’t use him. But I don’t see a scenario where the Leafs send him down after TDL. If they waive him it’s to make room for an acquisition before the deadline (except maybe if they can’t afford to activate Jarnkrok). |

google tells me waivers in effect until day after regular season ends
but that he is not eligible for playoffs if claimed after tdl - TheMussel
Thank you, the playoff time work is what I wondered. However I could see a team looking to give someone a rest grab people either way |

I shot down Risto.
But ya i would take jamie over him. - Fakepartofme
this is one of those comparisons where the "stats" fiends will go nuts....
at the end of it... both are big guys who can at times play aggressive and use their size in a positive fashion. Risto is a better skater and slightly more "nimble". Oleksiak is - by comparison - not as fast but certainly not a a poor skater. Risto is as thick/dumb as a plank - Oleksiak has much much better hockey IQ.
either could be a decent fit and would help in Toronto. I would take Oleksiak 10x over Risto myself.

Seriously - the Leafs should keep Woll in the minors on conditioning for another week at least... no need to rush the kid at this point.
similarly send Jarnkrok to the Marlies for conditioning - buys them a bunch of time ahead of the TDL to move things around.
