My guess is that he's left with the rental market ...somebody like Dallas outbids (pays a first) him for Tanev. None of the bigger ticket term guys get moved so he's left with the next best rental that he can afford. 3rd, prospect kinda deal maybe lands Walker.
- The Law

I think the priority is a RHD for now and next year and onwards.

I don't think Tre trades anything valuable for a player that does not have term or a guy they don't intend to sign.

If there guy is a UFA and are prepared to give them market value I can see a rental D come this way.

I think this lineup is worse than what we currently have.

I don’t want Gio playing anything but 7th D.

I agree Brodie sucks.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

You're out of your mind if you think adding Jenner and Savard is worse.

But we definitely agree that Gio and Brodie shouldn't be in a Cup winning team's D line up....cuz if they are then it's not a Cup winning D.

Curious to see if they move Jones if Woll comes back and looks ok. Carrying 3 goalies seems a bit expensive if they’ve got plans to add pieces and it would be better to get something rather than lose him to waivers.

Agree. Savard is a pylon and not top-4 on any contender. Jenner would be good tho.

You are a porch pirate dirty package thief.

You have two choices :

Big Amazon branded box sitting on doorstep of house #1.

Unassuming padded mailer in the mailbox of house #2.

If you chose #1, you lose. You got a bulk-size bag of vegan cat treats.

If you chose #2, you win. You got $1500 worth of lunar meteorite, Ethiopian opals, Indonesian fossil amber, and faceted tourmalines.

Also, you got shot four times if you chose #2.

I think he was interested in Toronto to some degree - I think there was truth to those rumours. I think in the end, Toronto was capped out by Vlad getting an unwarranted and unheard of arbitration ruling in his favour of $20m. If I understand their competitive tax balance situation, they're paying about $2m right now because with all-in, they are about $6m over the $238m threshold.

So they have about $224m in payroll obligations (they are paying $2m this year for this disastrous acquisition of Paul DeJong), but then baseball has other considerations - like Beneftis ($17m) and minor league salaries ($2.25m) which push them over the threshold.

Realistically though, don't resign Kiermaier for $10.5 and don't sign Turner for $13m, and you can have Bellinger.

- Monkeypunk

I dont believe the vlad arb impacted anything, the jays are now paying an extra 1.9m.
The jays had several holes to fill, probably werent going to do it for less than what they paid for kiermaier and turner.

Jenner would bring grit, strength, forechecking and leadership to the top-9. That said there are some obvious signs of decline in his game - he was more of a smart puck carrier - taking the puck to safety from his own zone and into the opposition zone and that seems to have faded from his game over the past two years. Certainly he is shooting less but some of that is attributable to the Jackets being a poor team.

He's excellent at deflections, which you can't argue is an immensely valuable skill in the playoffs. Having that big body get in position, establish a net front presence, screen and deflect pucks . . . those are the plays that will win games.

I had originally thought the arb difference was $6 - I thought they asked for $14m before I saw that they'd asked for $18.05 (the $14m was last year's salary).

I'm still stunned that he's making that much. Vlad was tied with Brandon Belt at 141st in WAR (2.0) last season. The year before he was 50th (3.9) in WAR and was given $14m as a result of that.

I really like Vlad - or at least what we know he's capable of - but professional sports is one of the few places where you can completely mail it in for a whole year, not be dedicated, not really give a crap - and get a raise because they know you could be better. The rest of us are updating our resumes and figuring out how to get our act together!

Ok, they may not be Marner good but they are improvements over our current players. I'll explain.

Jenner is an addition to the top 9. Injury, extra C, big body, no quit with all of the attributes that Monkey listed is a definite needle move to our F group. Now that the Domi/Bert/Nylander line clicks, Tavares/Jenner/Jarnkrok on the 3rd line will beat any teams 3rd line.

Savard apparently sucks now, so forget him. But anybody that is better than Brodie with Rielly is a needle move. Savard is better than Brodie but if they're going to waste assets, need a RHD with a bit of term at a decent Cap hit.

Knies, Matthews, Marner
Bert, Domi, Nylander
Tavares, Jenner, Jarnkrok

Stop your BS and slide your Marner boner to the side and look at that line up. That is one hell of a top 9.

Brodie is playable since he switched sides. 5 points (and +11) in his last 7 . And I like Gio/Leg as the 7/8 guys
The only D move to be made is to find a guy for Rielly. I dont know if Savard is it.

Tanev fits into this though. I don't think Tre will trade a first rnd pick for him (he better not!) but I absolutely do think they will try to sign him this summer.

My guess is they get more of a stopgap type of guy at the deadline and don't spend significant assets.
