I really do not blame him, per se. He was obviously a company "yes man", who came over from the beer division, and was put into an unwinnable position.

Then you throw an incompetent Tremblay in the mix, and that made it worse.

The real idiot was Ronald Corey, he created the whole mess and deserves 100% of the blame.

The story goes that Roy went back to apologize and Houle was too stubborn and his French pride was on the line and decided to trade him as fast as possible for whatever return. And that’s exactly what he did.

yeah, getting to the finals was just a figment of our imagination.

Yippy!! 1 finals appearance in 31 years! Sure glad you’re not the GM…holy!!

Even Houle would be taller than you too!

uh, ok...

my point is that people always freak out about MB's tenure, and cherry-pick everything so that it fits the narrative. anything bad that happened under him was his fault, and anything good was just pure luck.

Still think it was Corey pulling the strings, he told Houle what to do and Houle just did it. I do not think Houle could go to the bathroom without raising his hand and asking.

Either way, it was a (frank)ed up from top to bottom.

any of you own a sound bar for the tv?
worth it or not? what should I go for, or what should I avoid at all cost?
they have some at 100$ and others at 1200$.
I can also pass, I lived 50 years without one, I'm sure I can go another 20. lol

Sonos. No question. I have a complete set for my smaller home theatre. It even comes with a wireless subwoofer and controlled/tweaked by cell phone app.

Other than 1 final appearance in a (frank)ed up covid season, what other ups are we missing?

It's not only Bergy ... MONSIEUR Gauthier, Gainey and Peanut Houle before him weren't any better. They kept trying to keep the team competitive but all they could do was keep us as a bubble team.

They all made good and bad decisions.

The league has changed a lot over the last 30 years and a new approach (full rebuild) was necessary (if not long overdue).

Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle... MB got lucky.

also we don't know what would've happened if Kreider hadn't kreidered that year...

I can continue but I feel I've had this frickin' conversation a thousand times already.

I get your take. He had some great trades in there. But I think it was his lack of vision and ability to build a real team. And for someone who is lauded as having a real eye for talent…..it sure didn’t seem like that with his consistent failures overall.

How do you win your division, then miss the playoffs the next? It was an unpredictable team and he was just too emotional. Hence the Price and Gally contracts and his ego got the lineup into trouble. Hence KK, Dvo, Armia and all the other bums he collected off of the waiver wire over the years.

It’s not cherry picking when the negatives outweigh the positives in a 10 year tenure. It’s not like he was t given a chance.

The problem is, you have t grown up watching g the Habs be a perennial contender. Not your fault, I know, but it’s a real butch watching the team circle the drain for 3 decades.

Christ! Even (frank)ing Ex-GM Savard said he was embarrassed for vouching for the man.

I would say the same about Gainey, the Ghost, Houle. Failures abound.

not saying he was a great by any means, but it was still an improvement over the Houle and Gainey years imho. he's made some terrible mistakes, and I'm glad we've moved on, I just don't get why people are so traumatized all the time every time his name is mentioned.

He’s a very polarizing figure that put himself in front of team at times.

The hilarious thing is, we are both cherry picking but from different sides of the fence!

As a smart man once said…..bygones. 👍🏻

well to be fair I'm not a fan of Bergevin either, just that I recognize what he did wasn't always poop. I don't think that's cherry-picking, but yeah, bygones.

And I recognize that he did some good too. It was just the minority of his tenure in my eyes.

But we have better days ahead now, my friend! Lots to look forward to and it’s getting exciting again slowly but surely

^ This ... when you've witnessed greatness it's hard to adjust to mediocrity.

I remember kiddos falling over themselves over Saku Koivu ... he would have been our 4th line centerman for the '70s Habs !!!

That's how far we have fallen.

And an extra great rivalry with Les Nordiques when they were starting to slide in the early 80’s

I respect those who've witnessed the glory days, but you also have to recognize the league has changed, and the reality simply isn't the same. we won't ever see a team win the cup 4 years in a row.. so yes the habs sure have fallen, but you can't directly compare with what they did back then imho.

I think the Habs (as a whole), regardless of ownership, GM’s, coaches etc…..were all depending on the past for future success.

If you want to drive somewhere and be first to get there, you can’t be looking in the rear view mirror the entire trip.
