It's like when Roman Emperor would take over and their first task was to destroy the legacy of the previous guy

Well at least an Empire, historically, has a 300 year life span

I think the Habs (as a whole), regardless of ownership, GM’s, coaches etc…..were all depending on the past for future success.

If you want to drive somewhere and be first to get there, you can’t be looking in the rear view mirror the entire trip.

agreed, and it would seem that the Gorton/Hughes duo might be what the organization was looking for. they didn't have any ties with the team or its past, so they don't care about making moves if they consider it's for the best in a not-so-distant future.

he was soooo good, after 10 years in office and his firing, Habs went into the first rebuild of their 100 years old history.

I respect those who've witnessed the glory days, but you also have to recognize the league has changed, and the reality simply isn't the same. we won't ever see a team win the cup 4 years in a row.. so yes the habs sure have fallen, but you can't directly compare with what they did back then imho.
- Pat1993

Other teams (ie. Pens, Avs, Chicago, Detroit, etc) have had great runs in the meantime while we were just squeezing by into the playoffs and got an early exit. We were stuck in No Man's Land for 30 freakin' years ... you'd think someone would have thought to try another approach. Total lack of vision and planning.

Bergy's years were characterised with poor drafting, inexistent player development and constant hole patching with plugs while overly relying on their only one star player (Price) ... while totally ignoring building our center line, good luck winning a Cup with this strategy.

Luckily, his last years were more succesful at the draft table but the damage was already done as we barely had any players we drafted ourselves in our lineup, they all came from other organisation.

The final straws for Molson were probably the Aho/KK, Danault and Mailloux PR disasters.

I won't even mention the bad contracts he handed over to marginal players, we're still trying to clear the mess he left over.

yup, I've never said it was perfect either, and I'm fully aware it was far from it. I still find the "trauma" is way overblown every time we talk about him, that's all.

Would be fun to see just how much he’s advising the GM in LA?? Lol

They might as well have purchased a Magic 8 Ball ffs.

I dont see the point in living in the past (in general as well, to be honest) other than hurting yourself, really

also the Aho offer sheet turned out to be a blessing in disguise, if it wasn't for that the habs may still have been stuck with KK lol

It's like a therapy session ... the frustration from long time fans who've seen better has to come out somehow.

I get pissed just thinking about him but I'm slowly "healing".
