Ok great.
This seems like something that would be better suited for the lighting thread....or Florida thread?

Atlantic division, blue and white uniforms. The line is pretty blurry.
Both teams are shopping the same market for d-men right now. Savard could end up in Toronto. |

One could do worse than Savard, but one could certainly do better as well.
Savard is a third-tier consolation prize in the Hanifin/Tanev/Others sweepstakes. |

Ok.
Sure he made some stops and yes the score could have been worse if he didnt make said stops.
But overall, he didnt look last night. Thats ok to say. Im not blaming him for the loss. They were going to lose eventually
Woll will most likely get the net against Arizona.
Not because of sammies performance, but its the perfect time/team to get him a game. |

The leafs need to hit on the next D signing or trade.
I dont see savard being that "hit". |

Did you see anywhere in my sentence that solely blamed sammy for the loss?
No
Just said he didnt look good last night.
But let me guess.....it was all willies fault and marner rocked?
:π - Fakepartofme
I like Sammy... but not really much to argue with last night - he let in a couple of softies - and to a point that one of the TSN panelists made a few weeks back - a bad goal at a "bad time" can be a killer.

So goalie makes amazing save(s) that are probably expected goals to keep team in the game is fine but doesn't cancel out allegedly 'soft' goals. That's some BS in my VERY BIASED opinion & I also don't believe there were any soft goals that were at a bad time that killed this game - to me the Leafs were never really in this game once they gave up that 1st goal.
1st goal - breakaway - so the blame on that is on the 5 guys on the ice, likely more so the D.
2nd goal - tipped in front and a great tip, nothing Sammy can do there really but a D man shoudl be fronting that guy and taking away the stick IMO.
3rd goal - Sammy looked surprised and not ready - because he was both. He was this way because his friggin' captain had the puck, under control and decided to try a stupid weak ass backhand and coughed it up. Quick pass on a one timer and Sammy couldn't squeeze it. Hard to blame the goalie on that IMO.
4th goal - Leafs can't clear with multiple chances - (Possible high stick to keep the play alive Keefe didn't challenge)and the Leafs are chasing the puck. Open guy gets a shot, off the post and nobody takes the player who tucks in the rebound.
5th goal - empty netter despite Mitch "Veznia" Marner out there - I blame Marner for not making that easy save!
6th goal - totaly poopty rebound and it's in - that one is on Sammy but the game was already done by then.
Anyhow they won 7 in a row, were due for a loss and they got it.
Not surprised some folks who have been quiet or missing during the winning streak are now and some even going full Chicken Little about the Leafs situation.
New streak starts Thursday!

I don't see that extra year for Savard as valuable.
He is meh. He is a RHD and likely would be an upgrade as Rielly's partner but I'd rather just pay the price for Tanev as a rental but sign him.
Tanev at 3.5M or even 5M is a no brainer over Savard at 3.5M next year. |

Either go big or stay the course.
I'd try and add either Parayko or Markstrom and Tanev. I'm aware it will be costly but it's better than wasting assets on third liners like in the past. Parayko with his nice cap hit and term coupled with the fact that he's pretty much exactly what they need makes him an ideal add. Big, mean, right shot and not hopeless offensively.

Saw a trade on twitter where Leafs get Mantha double retained and Jensen
Mantha(1.6M) and Jensen 25% retained(3M)
Wonder what that would cost. |

Leafs had a great 1st period - one of their best. Vegas was on their heels and were just playing safe.
Second started alright then you get three individual mistakes ..bad ones ..that cost the team.
1st goal - Rielly missed his assignment. He took the blame, rightly. Brodie has strong side and is supposed to stay pressed. 44 has to know Barabanov leaked out.
2nd goal - Domi missed his assignment. Watch that build up ...he's clueless who to cover or that his guy has circled the net and is alone in front.
3rd goal - Yup Tavares turnover. Tough one on the wall but Sammy wants that one back.
4th goal - 88 too soft on the wall ...McCabe and Domi get behind in coverage and it's in the net.
After that it's over.

I'll have to look for it again.
On the top of my head it was something like
Leafs Mantha(75% retained) Jensen(no retention), Kharia
WSH Robertson, Jarnkrok some other valued pieace
Minny 5th, project prospect for retaining 25% and Kharia
If this was possible I'd prefer retention on Jensen and keeping Jarnkrok.
Dangle Robertson and 2024 1st and add whatever for Jensen(1-2M retained) plus Mantha(75% retained) |

In all my years of watching NHL hockey, I've never seen a guy get that open, so far up the ice.
