Hopefully Lyubushkin doesnt support the war in Ukraine, or Wedgie won't be able to cheer for the Leafs anymore.

How sad.

McCabe/Boosh/Benoit is a strong group of dudes. I like this approach.

And none of them can defend against the rush. They’re good in corners and around the net but forwards better be good at slowing down opposing guys coming through the neutral zone.

Ya and wasnt anywhere near a ppg player both years.

Right, which is why it's curious that he beat Mitch to 3 consecutive 80 point seasons.

Valiquette had some good points on Kyper and Bourne

Leafs getting victimized on rebounds on the LHD playing his off side
Need some bruisers to clear the net

We also give up a lot of breakaways, which Samsonov struggles with

You're right. A big problem to me with the team is their inconsistency. I still can't figure out what they're good at and what they aren't on the d-side of the puck because it changes every game.
But they aren't a fast team, and it can burn them.

Cause of covid.

Mitch would have been over 80pts each of those years but they only played 55 games or so.
And he had a horribly slow start this year, so no 80pts yet mitch.
Willi will hit 90pts for the first time ever very soon.
Maybe even 100.

Apparently the canucks and canes have had petersson trade talks.
Nothing serious

Edit:
Guess they were getting serious

"“According to multiple sources, the #Canucks    and Hurricanes had discussions about Elias Pettersson that advanced to a stage where both he and VAN needed to make serious decisions about where their relationship was headed.” #CauseChaos

“VAN ultimately decided in favour of another attempt at extending him, and he allowed his agents to resume talks.”

It’s going to be an interesting 8 days that’s for sure.

Think JT is playing while sick til the 9th for a reason? I’m wondering. Would have no idea why but would t be shocked if there was one.

I’ll always love the kings a bit, had a cousin play with Gretzky there for a few games to follow Melrose’s demand to protect him, Warren is one lucky SOB lol

It’s a combination of who they have and how they play. They have trouble remembering the things they need to do to play well for a few games or a few periods way too often. They also have some structural issues - the Domi line is pretty scary defensively and losing anyone who can play D on the right side puts them in trouble.

At least adding Boosh means they can go back to Benoit-McCabe and Brodie-Lilli which have been pretty good. Boosh plays with Rielly unless they add someone better which turns him into the 7th D

A lot of red for boosh

There's a lot of red. He is also a defenseman on Anaheim, so he takes a hit for that off the top.

We know who he is - he's big, slower and sometimes surprises with the puck, but is much better not getting fancy with it. He can clear the net, win battles, win board battles, and make guys pay who try to beat him to the outside. That said, he is passive at the blue line, so he gives up the zone too easily and because he's not fleet of foot, he can be beaten to the net with speed.

Using JFresh's model, Boosh was a 48% Projected WAR on the Leafs. He was a 15% on a non-playoff Buffalo team last year, and obviously we see the 1% this year.

Same guy. Different teams, different systems, different support structures. Hopefully he can be a 40% here - because for a 5/6/7 that's decent.

Sure, he would have got those points if he could have, but he didn't. He could be leading the Leafs in scoring this year, but he's not.

Remember when the Leafs had the same reg wins as the Sharks. Now they have 3 less than Boston with 2 games in hand. Good on the Leafs for turning that stat around.

“All I have to do is get in front of the net and put my stick down and I’d score”

-my cousin

He’d always talk about how Wayne essentially just bounced it off of him which made him a top ten scorer after two rounds…. Dropped after that but oh no, he wasn’t playing as much with Gretzky.

So one year he had 67 in 59 games - so he was going to get 13 points in 1 game?
The next year he had 67 in 55 games - I mean 13 points in 5 games is more plausible, but certainly wasn't his pace.

Every other year he played more than 60 games and didn't do it. That's not even the team's 60th. That's Mitch playing 60 games and not getting to 80 points.

Willy is having a good season. There's no reason to take it away from him but saying, "yeah but Mitch would've done it!"

If Mitch would've done it, he would have done it.

It can be about fit too, because everything you just said describes Schenn and he turned out to be much more than a bottom pairing defenceman here last season.
