Man Treeliving is an awful GM. I had low expecations, but this trade feels like wasted assets. I feel like he will end up in the press box. I am good with trading a 3rd, but not for a player who isnt really better then anyone back there right now.

He's definitely better than Lajoie and the corpses of Gio or Lilly, who are both hurt.

I'm not sure the ordering here, but are you suggesting that Rielly and Boosh would be bottom pairing in "spirit" or minutes?
- gravyface

Level of Competition in a way? If I could move Rielly down so he was playing against lesser competition a bit more often and have the other guys, who are actually defensemen, playing a bit more harder minutes it might keep Rielly more fresh for special teams assignments or when the load is required (trailing and I want a goal, I want Rielly out there to drive the play from the back-end). I would imagine by the end of the night Rielly would still have minutes, but maybe by not as much of a difference - right now he plays approximately 24 minutes/game compared to Brodie's 22, McCabe's 20, Lilly 19, and then Gio and Benoit with 16.

It was basically a wash in the fancy stats department during the playoffs, where it matters the most.
- gravyface

We all draw up a lineup and expect it to stay the same for a whole playoff run but that’s not reality.

Brodie has shown that he is pretty much done on the right side, he is much more effective on the left and Keefe just said that yesterday.

Timmins has mono, could be out for months and has barely played this season.

Leafs realistically had ONE decent right hand option in Liljergen.

Now they have a good depth D that knows the system and has played well here before. After they get another D he is likely the 7th D but they will need him on a run.

Boosh is what he is ...but this sounds ALOT like what we all said when Dubas added Schenn last year.

On the drive this morning some stats guy was talking about Boosh. He's pretty meh at everything but his one statistical plus is on the PK. He's excellent apparently. And god knows the Leafs PK has been pretty poop all year.

But the fact he's costing nothing in AAV means Tree is still shopping.

The Prospect I see out there mentioned is Tverberg, not sure how much value he has tbh.

But a 1st, Tverberg and maybe something else should get a decent player back.

Doubt they move Cowan or Minten. unless its a Rasmus Andersson type return.

but..i dont think the leafs do much more actually. maybe a minor move or 2

- senstroll

Agreed.
The past couple of years the leafs have had big wholes that theyve tried to fix at the deadline, which hasnt really worked. Im fine with another minor move and revamp the D in the off season.

Ironically, fancy stats matter the least in the playoffs.

Just got my Kirill Slepets jersey.

He's the sleeper in this deal.

Tre is playing with his 3D Big Wheel out there, while all the other GMs are on tricycles.

If they can get a good RD with term (Anderson, Larsson, Borgen) I’d be happy to hand over the 1st and a top prospect

And for those still wondering how the Tanev deal went down...for what it's worth.

Fat Seravalli said the Flames were really hot for the Russian defenseman in that deal. He said Tree and Flames spoke on Wednesday ..probably increasing the offer from the Leafs ...then Dallas put the package together with the Russian kid and a 2nd to get it done.

A bit deceiving, in that 4 of their 8 defencemen are RFAs.

Having said that, we are obviously going to bring back Dermott.

You might be right, and I don't know all the inner workings of our cap situation, but doesn't the double retention kind of indicate a bigger move? Or are we that tight against the cap that it was the only may to make him fit?

I think it indicates that the leafs want the ability to take on a bigger cap if something comes their way.

Gotta leave their options open.....still a week left, prices could come down as 3pm Friday gets closer.
