Pettersson is 1.02 ppg over 387 games.
Nylander is .882 ppg over 580 games.
Monkey Punk can throw out the fancy stats, but using PPG alone, it looks like Petterson brings more offense.
Further, in the playoffs :
Nylander 40 points in 50 games (17g, two game winners)
Pettersson 18 points in 17 games (7g, two game winners) - GalacticStone
I mean it doesn't take much to recognize that Pettersson is a better player - but they are both fantastic players. I would also say that I think Willy's contract is $250k - $500k more than where it should have been, and Pettersson may come in around where he should - maybe even about $400k less than some projections. Last year Pettersson had over 100 pts and this year he is on a similar pace - it's been buoyed a bit by higher than normal shooting percentages from he and his linemates, but . . .

One thing that both players have in common is that they seem to be polarizing players. A lot of Vancouver fans call him pouty. |

Toronto will always pay a premium for players. The sooner everyone realizes this, the less we'll be talking about it every time somebody signs a big contract. |

They call it the Toronto million. If it’s two identical players, Toronto pays a million more. According to Burkie when he was a media personality. |

Its not....well its not that simple.
But not a good comparison either way.
I think its a bs excuse made by gms who maybe arent good at negotiating.
I understand Toronto may have to pay more compared to Florida, but not compared to any other canadian or northern us franchise. |

I like burkie, but he had an excuse for everything.
Compared to cities that have lower tax rates sure, but as such an "iconic" franchise, no way it should have to pay more than most nhl cities.
Need a gm to put his/her foot down...but who will.
We wait and see. |

The fishbowl effect doesn't work in Toronto's favor. Not sure how the reality matches up against the perception, but if it's true, then I understand where some higher-profile players might think twice about that market. Even with all things being equal (taxes), a guy like Stamkos can walk around the beach in Tampa and not get mobbed. On an average day, he might not be recognized. If he screws up, he doesn't have eleventy-million frothing fans hurling abuse at him (and his wife) on Twatter.
I could see a player tell his agent : if the Leafs come knocking, raise the price. Ditto for Montreal.
Actual mileage may vary.

The players have all the power though. Petey got this contract as rfa. If the team balked at it he would have demanded a trade. |

Us and the media. We don’t just get worked up about our own contracts, we get worked up about Vancouver’s too. |

And the team doesnt have to trade him.
Apparently petey was originally offered 12m per at the beginning of the season.
